I don't think I played Half-Life, but I did play Fallout, which was terribly overrated, and confuse it with Half-Life, so I'm assuming that Half-Life is ALSO wildly overrated garbage 8)

You played the original Fallout, right? I have no clue what genre that game was. The ones that are actually good are Fallout 3 and New Vegas, which are combination RPG and FPS.

The original and the sequel were pretty much identical.
3 and New Vegas are pretty similar to the Elder Scrolls, but it generally gets rid of the Elder Scrolls' worst elements, like the sub-par plot and grinding. And it adds guns. And giant Incredible Hulk-like people. Who carry miniguns.

New Vegas was awful, but Fall out 3 was well thought out. New Vegas just got extremely boring once you got to actual Vegas.

I watched a playthrough of New Vegas and honestly, it seemed like nothing more than an extended series of fetchquests.

To be fair, "an extended series of fetchquests", IMO, describes almost every popular console/PC rpg of the past 20+ years 8) True but my problem with New Vegas is the plot becomes paper thin after you get to new vegas. The point is to try and get revenge on the guy that shot you. Once this is achieved it feels like a big side quest.

Admittedly I was only watching and not playing, but my take was that you got your choice of which group to help rise to power... and all of them were basically douchebags who screwed your character throughout the entire game every chance they got. ... I did enjoy the very friendly robot that turned out to be a complete ass though.

Not that I really want to get back on topic but out of curiosity wasn't there a Halo RTS? I wonder if I'd care for that at all.

Admittedly, I've never heard anyone claim that Halo was deep or that Master Chief was some kind of amazing protagonist... but assuming that Mike's statement is correct, I'm confused as to how anyone could feel that the Halo series was about telling stories or establishing a protagonist at all. The "story" is basically an excuse to shoot things. That's okay, it's a video game and all... but to read more into it, you REALLY have to be digging.

So long as you know what you're playing for, then why not. Halo had a servicable story with some limited twists and turns.

Oh my GOD dude, Halo fans fall kneel in reverence to that freaking space suit. I've seen that "character" on all kinds of "best" lists for years. I've seen him described as "revolutionary" because players don't see his face and can therefore imagine themselves in the role and "bold" because he symbolizes the 'facelessness of war". When they were talking about making the Halo movie they thought he should be played by Denzel Washington. As to the story I'm less familiar because I stopped after the first game but I know that the fans are really high on that as well. Something about The Flood (basically super enemies, I guess) and The Evil Comp-Korp or something. And a talking hologram love interest or some crap, I dunno. Supposed to be genius.

As with all FPS games, terribad. I enjoy FPS games, Age of Empires II is a good time. There's also a relatively unknown game called "Medieval Conquest" that I find really addicting. So long as you know what you're playing for, then why not. Halo had a servicable story with some limited twists and turns. I remember nothing of the story other than "Hey dude, go kill those uninspired chicken aliens. ZOMIGERD, DE FLOOD! WEZ SO FUCKED NAO! Blow more stuff up and shit."
