Source www.ewrestlingnews.com/news/22987/breaking-news-aj-styles-leaving-tnaA.J. Styles appears to be departing from TNA for the first time since the company's formation in 2002. Styles' current contract extension expires on the 16th of the month and he will be a free agent after that; he has already begun taking independent bookings. Styles and TNA reportedly couldn't come to terms on money; with the company trying to cut costs, the two sides have had a wide gulf in the amount of money they wanted the deal to be for and despite the two-month extension signed in October, they were unable to work things out. TNA was unable to offer Styles what he had been making and Styles, who felt he was a big part of the company and its brand, wouldn't agree to a lesser deal. The departure of Styles has reportedly "sent a bad signal" to other TNA originals who have deals coming up; the message is that the company will lose their originals if they can't make a deal fit their financial requirements. Styles is moving forward with outside projects such as his autobiography and his participation in a speaking tour of the UK next year. Thoughts?

For AJ's sake, I hope it's true. TNA is a sinking ship...
BUT
TNA has faked this exact same story SO many times now, it's difficult for me to believe that it's not just another ploy.

Yep, I'm taking it with a grain of salt too.
I do wish the guy the best though. I don't think WWE has much interest in him so he might be better off just doing indies or going to Japan.
If it even is true.

First the ship jumpers (Christian, Flair, Foley) flock back to WWE, then Hogan leaves TNA and now even TNA guys are supposedly leaving?
TNA must be in worse shape then I thought. WWE might get Undertaker VS Sting yet, if TNA folds I don't see someone such as Sting working a indie payroll. lol

I like Sting, wouldn't mind seeing him work one or two matches in WWE but I don't think investing a full time contract with him would be smart due to his age.
I also believe that Sting may rather retire than work for WWE.

TNA is in very bad shape. A few months ago they couldn't pay their on-screen talent on schedule, which is a bad sign because talent is always the last people to get screwed on pay... which means you know that camera people, etc weren't getting paid on time for months before that. They've made a real mess of things over there. Rumors about what they're paying a handful of top guys (Sting, Austin Aries, Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle) compared to other talent that are also busting ass for that company (Bobby Roode, James Storm, Kaz, Daniels, etc) are pretty ugly as well.
WWE doesn't want Styles. They're certainly not going to give him what he'd want to come to work for them, since he sees himself as a legitimate star and WWE sees him as filler for their already overstocked midcard. I like Styles, sincerely... but if you compare him to what WWE has going on in new guys on TV or even their NXT guys, Styles isn't that exciting.
I could theoretically see Styles in an angle as the representative of a group of "indy" guys coming into to call out Punk and Bryan as sell-outs... but WWE doesn't like to do things that are fun or creative, so that won't happen.

This story most likely isn't true, but if it is......
It's quite sad TNA can't offer Styles a new contract with the same money as before.... yet continue to pay Sting the money he's getting, lol
As for AJ, he could go to WWE (though pretty slim), but he'd most likely go back to ROH, though had it been a couple of years ago, hell maybe even last year, I'd definately have said WWE would want Styles

I would rather see a (current) Styles match than a (current) Sting match any day of the week, but wrestlers are paid on drawing power, not talent, and Sting, old and broken as he is, is more of a draw than Styles has ever been or will ever be.
I don't think RoH will be as welcoming to Styles as they probably should be... in the past several years, RoH has really begun to changeover from fanbase to fanaticism, and although TNA isn't as hated with that crowd as WWE, it's still seen as a place for guys who have sold out and don't want to work hard anymore. RoH fans may not welcome Styles back with open arms, despite the fact that he's probably better than anyone they've got working for them right now.

I thought of him going back to ROH to, but I also agree with you that it might not be the best option because, like you said, he may not be as welcome there. I think Japan and/or indys are the best for him at the time.

Styles could probably be King of the Indies if he wanted to, since WWE and TNA are scooping up all of the top indie talent (except Kevin Steen. He'll never be anywhere but the indies)

Yeah, but imo anyway, Sting at this point isn't much of a draw as he was 5years ago, and isn't worth as much as he is getting (don't know how much he was/is making, but apparently it was close to what Hogan was making), either way, whilst AJ isn't as he was, I would still love to see him in WWE, even as a mid carder (though that seems really slim now)

Sting draws. I don't know why at this point, but he does.

Sting is definately a draw, I'd have to be a huge Styles mark to even think Styles would draw more than Sting, lol
My point was though, I think TNA would benefit more by bulding up thier own guys that can draw with guys like a Bobby Roode, so that they don't need to rely on a 50 year old guy

I think these companies (WWE included) need to stop leaning so heavily on proven draws and start considering that it might be negatively affecting their future

AJ Styles.. well I wish him the best of luck if this is true. I don't see him in WWE and thats a shame, but it seems to be about money.
As for TNA themselves if you can't pay and need to rescale I can't blame them for doing it. I think they do need to cut the bloated contracts, but AJ Styles may not have been the one to cut.

AJ Styles and TNA are officially back in negotiations for Styles to sign a new deal with the promotion.
Apparently there is some talk that Styles may have already signed a new deal at some point in the last 48 hours.
As noted earlier today, Styles has at least nine known bookings with independent pro wrestling promotions between now and March, so if he were to re-sign with TNA, he is already committed to those appearances.
We should have more on this story in the near future as further information surfaces. [Credit: F4WOnline.com]
