Movies/Miniseries I have The Stand The Golden Years The Langoliers It Storm of the Century Rose Red Hearts in Atlantis Desperation The Shining (1997) The Tommyknockers Bag of Bones Salem's Lot (2004) Nightmares and Dreamscapes
Most of the books I read in high school but haven't had as much time to read them since I started college.

That's impressive man, even I haven't read some of those 8)
Question; have you seen the mini-series version of The Shining? And if so, do you prefer it, or the Nicholson movie version?

I actually prefer the mini-series but only slightly. The mini-series is MUCH closer to the book, though not exact. I tend to favor the actors/actresses more in the Kubrick version but I think Steven Weber does a great job as well in the mini-series. As far as the directing, special effects, etc. Kubrick wins, though this is one of the better Mick Garris films.

I preferred the mini-series as well, and actually liked Weber over Nicholson. IMO, Nicholson was too busy being Nicholson in that movie..

Nicholson's always playing Nicholson.
It actually worked out fairly well when he was cast as Joker, though.

If you watch the with the commentary on on the DVD, I think it's King that makes the quote "With the Kubrick version, you were watching a crazy guy just go crazier, but with this version you're watching a normal guy lose his mind." I totally agree with him, and it's another reason why I do prefer the mini-series. I preferred the wife and kid in the original though.

I liked Nicholson's Joker. Best "live action" Joker ever, IMO. Light years ahead of the ballyhooed Ledger version.

I never really liked the 1980 Shining film to begin with. I know it's regarded as some kind of all-time classic, I guess just because people worship everything that Kubrick does, but I thought that it was a relatively mediocre film. The atmosphere is fantastic- I'll give him that- and there are a few good chills. But the acting is abysmal, the place is glacial, and it's a sloppy mess of a script that really kind of mutilates the book. It doesn't help that Nicholson is Nicholson and that he's pretty much ready to kill his family by the opening credits.
The miniseries is kind of bland but it's reasonably well-acted and much closer to the book. I prefer it as well.

My only issue with the mini-series is the super cheesy ending.

Salivate like I did, then once you're done send me some money so I can buy this.

My only issue with the mini-series is the super cheesy ending. You mean the graduation scene? If so I thought it was a bit corny too, but it kind of worked for this version of the film.

NECA and Sideshow Collectibles have been standbys of mine for years but once I was shown that Joker figure, everything else went out the window. Granted, the figures are larger so there's naturally going to be more room for detail, but these figures are exquisite regardless.

The graduation part was cheesy but, like Mike, I thought it fit well.
