So where are your statistical facts in this regard Knight? *facepalm* Look at the elected governments and popular policies of the nations of Planet Earth. Most people who are Secular Humanists don't call themselves Secular Humanists, so of course there's no "statistical evidence." You're far too smart to try to beat me with a "whatever people call themselves, they are" argument soon. You know better than that. The evidence of observation stands fairly obvious. That's nice, so your only evidence lies in what you have seen in your view of the world? What about the large majority of the world who live in places where they don't HAVE elected officials(Which coincidentally happen to hold the majority of the world's population). How exactly do the policies in our world reflect that people believe we are headed towards perfection of human mind(Especially when you actually look at people and they constantly bitch about how terrible the world is).

You want to look that one up and get back to me? I'll give you one thing; people DO like to complain about how bad the world is... which doesn't stop them from supporting policies and belief systems that suggest that the solution to humanities ills is more humanity.

China doesn't have elected officials- population according to 2012 statistics: 1,344,130,000 (Although their people still approve of the government according to official polls) I would go into the many other countries, but I don't really have the time right now...(Busy helping bake stuff)

Try again. China elects it's General Assembly by popular vote, and the General Assembly chooses the executives. Arguably, China's election process is more genuinely democratic than some "democracies" around the world. 36% of the world's population live in China and India... both of which elect officials. The 12 countries with the highest populations, in fact, have elected officials.

Anyhow you're right about China having elected officials, although the officials with most of the power are chosen through the officials that are elected by the officials that are elected by the people.

It was a typo, not a spelling error. Indirect election is the norm, not the exception. In the U.S. we have an electoral college that serves a very similar function. Genuine direct election is pretty rare, and has historically had some pretty chaotic results (which, admittedly, might be good at this point given how power hungry most of the world's major governments are)

paying it forward was a fail of a movie and a fail in society. very few if any take what good has been bestowed on them and turn around and return the favor for someone else.

I agree, and that was (in part) my point; if you want to do something nice, do something nice, but if you're doing nice things imagining it makes the world a better place overall, you're a special kind of fool.

being and doing good needs to be the reward itself. not for praise or anything like that. but because it's a nice thing to do.

I forcefully stole a bum's alcohol to inspire him to quit drinking. I don't have pictures or video, but I will get it next time. *Honk*
