Watching Vintage it showed the scene where Bryan painted Orton SUV. And the whole "if I become champion, does that make me the face of the company" thing Bryan said...
Isn't Cena the face of the company regardless of who is champion? Cena is obviously the biggest superstar WWE has.

Being WWE Champ has nothing to do with "face of the company", unless your name is Cena. Punk was the WWE Champ for a whole year, but Cena was the face the whole time (2012).

Exactly what HeelSRI said. It's all about whose showcased, now as a champ it helps because to some extent you have to be showcased. However with Punk it was still Cena in the mainevnt for some PPVs. Which to me spoke volumes.

Take away Cena and the past champions since 2006 have been Edge,RVD, Orton, HHH, Jeff Hardy, Batista, Sheamus,The Miz, CM Punk, Rey Mysterio,Alberto Del Rio, The Rock, and Daniel Bryan. None of those guys we would consider the face of WWE during any of their title runs. Cena is the face of WWE no matter if he holding the belt or not he main event the PPVs and get the top storylines.

Cena is the face of the company.. Period. He sells more PPV's, More merch and more tickets than anyone else and has done so for a LONG time. The second someone else starts to do that they will become the new face of the company IE: Punk right after the "Pipebomb" promo it was stated that his t-shirts/clothing, figures, ect. had started to outsell Cena's he got a huge push and became the face of the company for a good few months back in 2011

It's not a length of time (JBL, Punk, etc.) but whether or not McMahon & Levesque want you to represent "their" company.

That would be incredibly stupid on their part. I don't care if he's talking out of the side of his neck. I wouldn't put a guy who makes such comments as the face of my company. What WWE should do is go with Bryan and see if he sticks. If he doesn't move on to the next guy. Punk is 36 years of age, the same age as Cena. They both aren't the future.

It's not about duration, it's about pushing merchandise!

This "face of the company" stuff is basically just the latest promo buzzword. It means whatever the company wants it to mean.
While merchandise sales do seem to be the determining factor that WWE uses to consider who to push, the champion has always been the de facto representative of a wrestling promotion. Back in the territory days, when wrestlers only competed in their own specific regions of the country, choosing the right champion was of utmost importance because it was that man who would need to draw the crowds and keep the promotion competitive. In the days of the National Wrestling Alliance, champions were voted upon by the various promoters- much thought (and more than a little bit of politics) went into choosing who got to wear the strap. You'll often hear some of the older guys say that it was an honor just to wrestle against a champion because back then, the heavyweight title was the most important thing in the company.

When he was "on top" he was feuding with Cena and when he wasn't feuding with Cena all the attention went from him to Cena and whoever he was feuding with. Punk and Bryan have a few things that will prevent them from being the face of WWE. First off they are too small, WWE wants the face of their company to have a larger then life body(which is why they prefer guys like Big E, Ryback, and Cena ). Second they don't have a mainstream look so WWE couldn't put them on networks like Fox News or ESPN. Punk is skinny, has a few piercings and tattoos all over his body. Bryan is short, skinny and look like a lumberjack. Cena has the body and look that WWE can put all over TV and poster. Cena has the "All American" look WWE want in the face of their company.
