Face it, the only problem people have with the breaking of the record is that it'll probably be Cena breaking it.
No one would have batted an eyelid if it was someone like the Rock or Punk.
That's not even remotely true. I would have been pissed if it were Punk. Punk is a good performer, but he's no Ric Flair. The Rock might have been worthy if he'd stayed with the business instead of running off to do movies in his prime, but as it stands, I couldn't back him either. I honestly can't think of anyone who has that kind of status, except Hulk Hogan.
It is true, I was just picking two guys who are generally held in high esteem around here, could have easily picked Edge/Ziggler/whoever everyone loves.
Simple point I'm making is that people get uppity about this record simply because Cena. Records are there, records get broken, Flair's record will be broken, whoever holds that then will also have it broken. It's just simply how it goes.

Well first of all, who breaks a record is important, so the fact that so many people are bothered by it being Cena while very few people dispute that Flair deserves to have held it in the first place is a good indicator that having Cena be the one to break it is a bad idea. Second of all, I literally just said that I can't think of anyone with the stature to exceed Flair's record.

i would hope that the word of mouth history of pro wrestling wrestling would shine a favorable light on Flair's contribution to the business. sadly i don't see that happening..

Flair has been a taker for most of his life, and has been an absolute joke for at least a decade. You can't blame people for basing their opinions of him on what they see him doing now, and on all of the backstage stories about him being a complete piece of crap to everyone every chance he got. Flair's contributions shouldn't be forgotten, but he's brought all of the bad feelings directed toward him down on himself.

people seem to have no issue forgiving hbk for the same bullshit...oh wait, he's born again...never mind...

That's a ridiculous statement. Nobody forgives HBK because he's "born again." It's patently absurd that in a culture as hostile to Christianity as ours, you want to act as if announcing that you're a Christian (and in the process, effectively killing a very popular gimmick) is the reason why HBk is better thought of than Flair.
Here's a thought; people like HBK because he stopped acting like a spoiled little baby and gave a very giving performer for the last several years of his career, AND had the brains and balls to walk away when it was time. Flair finished out his career as a selfish prick, is still a selfish prick, and insulted wrestling fans everywhere by "retiring" and then going on to put on a handful of pathetic matches in TNA anyway.

Total Divas is totally stupid, and I would argue that it actually holds the Divas back more than it promotes them.

It really does and the sad thing is they have Natalya, the most talented diva in the WWE, on there. That says ALOT. So since they aren't really having anything happen with them, that's all they can fall back on/say is happening with them.
