The Invasion angle is one time when I think McMahon's personal ego got in the way of good business. I realize that most fans think that's every single day, but I strongly disagree, I think McMahon for the most part is all about business and not himself. In the Invasion though... well, first of all, they should never have tried it at all with the talent they had. Without WCW's big names, it was a wasted effort. But beyond that, it was SO disrespectful to the legacy of WCW that McMahon tossed Austin onto the WCW side, as if they couldn't possibly stand on their own without a WWE guy to save them. Yeah. They had BOOKER T. How is that... What? You know what, screw this, The Invasion angle was atrocious.

Austin's split from WCW has been gone over a lot. it lead to what many people (right or wrong) call the biggest boom in the business, which was lead by Austin (as many would say, right or wrong). i saw it as Vince's was of saying "If only you knew how to use him, pal."...i could be talking out of my ass..i'm known to do so.. Assuming you're correct... it's still an ego-driven move by McMahon, and one that stuck in the craw of a lot of WCW fans who just wanted to see the performers that they had loved shown some respect.

No NWO, Goldberg, or Sting is part of the reason why it failed. The problem with the feud is it turned to a Austin/McMahon thing instead of a WCW/ECW vs WWE war. They simply didn't make the WCW/ECW guys look strong enough if you ask me.

I love Booker T. I think he was a great performer, easily one of the best tag team wrestlers of all time, and despite his world championships, still vastly underrated as a singles guy too. He just simply didn't carry enough starpower (especially after being jobbed out to and made to look like a fool by The Rock) to represent WCW. WCW was all about the mega-stars. WCW in a 5 year period had Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Sting, Lex Luger, Bill Goldberg, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Ultimate Warrior, Roddy Piper... I may not be a fan of all of those guys, but that is some pretty serious "firepower" and "Team WCW" had none of it.

i guess the promo between Booker and Rock was the reason Sting refused to sign on with the E. goldberg was a massive flop with wwe.."We needed him to go 20 (minutes) for a ppv, when it was hard to get 8 from him at a house show" -Kevin Nash on Goldberg..

I'm the guy that wrote the "why the Ultimate Warrior really isn't a big deal" essay 8) However, the fact of the matter is that the guy had drawing power in the 90's, and could have partially made up for the lack of real WCW-branded talent.

I don't think Sting was ever going to sign with WWE regardless. He's got personal animosity toward McMahon.

I don't know if he's personally angry about it on a regular basis or anything... but I think it's obvious that it still clouds his judgment. His continuing to work for/with TNA rather than doing a year with WWE and entering the HoF is not clear-headed thinking.

I don't know... I'm not sure whether it'd be good for Sting to do one stint in the WWE or retire in TNA...

I don't know... I'm not sure whether it'd be good for Sting to do one stint in the WWE or retire in TNA... I would have an awfully hard time arguing that a guy like Sting doesn't belong in the same HoF with Flair, Anderson, the Four Horsemen, Dusty Rhodes, etc. Not to mention that win or lose, Sting vs. Undertaker would make the best final match of "the streak" that anyone could ever ask for.
