I love it, I love the design as well as the vibrant green color. First seeing that green blade against the blue Tattooine sky was such an exciting moment as a kid. Which would be your favorite saber if not Luke's green? I don't like the design of Luke's original saber (which I guess would be Anakin's). If I recall correctly the handle transitions to the blade with sort of a "sheath" design rather than a (vaguely) "guard" design. It kind of reminds me of an Exacto knife and it bugs me for some reason. I think Ob-Wan's has the same upside-down lampshade sort of thing going on that I like. Why Howard, are you asking me to put my hands on your lightsaber? I haven't seen Star Wars in about 10 years. But as a kid my favorite saber was always Darth Maul's red double saber.

"As a kid"? Man, you people are making me feel ancient lately.
I do love Maul's double saber though. It was awesome to see for the first time and as a fan of the bo it's one of my favorite lightsaber designs.

I couldn't hate Maul's double saber more if I tried. Seeing that thing was my first sign that I was going to HATE The Phantom Menace, as I knew immediately that we were going to move from the more grounded, realistic swordwork for the OT to a BS wirefu style that would accomodate such a ridiculously unwieldy weapon, and shockingly, I was right. I also knew that it would be a microcosm of an overall shift from substance to style, and again, I was shockingly correct.

Exactly. As a weapon it looks really cool.

Exactly. As a weapon it looks really cool. Yeah, no it doesn't. First and foremost, a weapon should be a weapon. It should be something that someone could and would want to actually use in an actual fight.

*sigh* Whatever. I don't know why I'm arguing with someone who defends DKR.

In today's world the "cool" factor means more than the effectiveness factor.

*sigh* Whatever. I don't know why I'm arguing with someone who defends DKR. That's got to be the longest you've ever gone without shoehorning in a reference to how much you hate The Dark Knight Rises.

That's got to be the longest you've ever gone without shoehorning in a reference to how much you hate The Dark Knight Rises. Not how much I hate it (though, make no mistake, I DO hate it...) The reference was to it's incredibly poor actual quality and reliance on hype, sentiment, and "cool factor" to get Over despite being a very poorly constructed story with very little to offer

.. and that doesn't look ridiculous to you? Seriously?
To me, that's infinitely stupider looking than his comic book outfit (to say nothing of the fact that even though I'm not bilingual, I would have understood much more of what he said if he'd said it in Spanish without the stupid Darth Gator mask)

That depends on whether you're ready to confront certain things about yourself.

I find Maul' s lightsaber to be both cool looking, and ridiculous. Ridiculous because a bow staff is used to keep an enemy at a distance and if you tried to use it like you should you would have to change your name to Darth Nubs.

Well, more or less. The bo is typically held in thirds so while a person could wield it proficiently by only holding the middle of it, it would be fairly impractical to never use the two ends.
