I can't say I'd probably care either way. It's the desire to get to my damn game (due in part because of the wish for instant gratification, sure, but mostly because that's simply how consoles worked when I was growing up) that bugs me more, not so much the intro sequence itself. You learn to kind of tune them out, even if they can be obnoxious. Microsoft's is more in-your-face, if not less pretentious, than Sony's. Well, on the previous generation anyway.

I think that there is a way to change the settings on the 360 so that if there is a disc in the drive, it fires up straight to the game instead of to the XBox "home" thingie. I never use it because I like the "hub"

360 makes a loud bleep when you press the power bottom on the system to turn it on or off. At least on the 360 slim (the black ones), it does. No idea if the original model 360 made a turn on sound or not. I'm not referring to the system boot up menu, but actual sound the machines make when being turned on.
Side note: I did some testing, 360 seems to make a sound only when turned on or off via the power button on the console. When I turned it on via controller it made no sound.

I've never owned an Xbox 360 slim so I can't say, I don't recall the original model ever beeping but I could be entirely mistaken. I think that there is a way to change the settings on the 360 so that if there is a disc in the drive, it fires up straight to the game instead of to the XBox "home" thingie. I never use it because I like the "hub" There is such a setting, I use it myself because I don't really like or need the dashboard, but they still insist on reminding you what console you're using.

I can't count how many times I'd be wiping dust off the console to keep it clear and either trigger the open disc tray sensor or the console power sensor. I know it's more futuristic and next gen in design, but I like that Sony switched back to press buttons with the slim. Microsoft should of done the same.

I was gonna ask how a cat does that, but then I remembered that cat's unlike dogs like to climb up around everywhere. I'd assume you don't leave your machines on the floor.

No, it's up off the floor... but cats love to climb on everything, especially anything that's warm

I want my console to play the sound of a golden hand bell that you use to summon a virtual butler who will show me all the games on my console via a silver platter.

I can't remember my 360 making a ding noise when I switch on. Yeah, I was going to say. As for why the PS3 beeps, I think Sony decided that the machine needed to provide more signals that it was actually on because their fans are retards. Macaronisoft all the way, bytchez. I'm not a retard, retard. Mr. Mike who lets rats eat soft macaroni. You are shameful. You might give those rats diarrhea.

The only sound my Xbox makes is a loud humming, sometimes grinding noise. No idea why, it's probably just going to fry soon. I don't feel any particular need for my console to be a showman when it starts up. Forget trying to convince me that you're epic, just get me to my games. I like this post. BUT If my console needs it's own wrestling entrance, it had better play AC/DC... I love this post!

It's to help blind people know they turned the game on.

So you know exactly how long to hold down the power button to go between the different setting modes on the PS3. Most helpful when trying to start it up in safe mode.
I don't know why the Xbox does it. They're probably just retarded.
You're all welcome.
