Also, Two-Face and Harley working together? What? Apparently, every villain is teaming up to finally kill Batman. Also, Batmobile.

I'm pretty sure most of the Batvillains hate each other, too.

I don't know much about Batman or it's stories, but it does seem like a pretty generic, throw away, fan written-esque, "... And then they all team because cooooool" plot point.

In fact, it's almost a bi-annual event.

I imagine at this point everything has already been done at least 10 times in Batman. I don't really know how comics work. Do they still write new ones? I'm under the impression that they've been going on non stop for the past 70(? How old is Batman?) years. I'd think they'd run out of stuff to write about years ago.

Kind of, what happens a lot is reboots. So you get some retelling with a bit of new stories. However some of the new stuff is reminiscent of what came before it.

Between 86 and the Nu52 reboot in '12, they must have used that plot at least half a dozen times, if not more. It's not just reboots that cause plots to get recycled. Batman has had at least 2 titles going for years... recycling is inevitable.
The question is not "do plots get recycled," it's "when plots get recycled, is it done well and with enough difference that it's not simply a rehash.?"

Not only regarding the comics, wasn't this the basis of Arkham Origins, too? The one that released, like, maybe six months ago?

I didn't play Origins. Or City. Heck, I haven't even finished Asylum. Regardless, I'm pretty sure the marketing campaign behind Origins involved numerous assassins being hired to kill Batso.

That is correct. They're not really working together though. They're all trying to get the reward money, so they can't really work together.

In the end I don't really see how this game is that interesting. It's got a similar story to all the rest and is guaranteed to have the exact same repetitive gameplay. The gameplay was great for the first one. It was a fun little button mashing thing, but now it's 3 games later and we still have the same "mash square and sometimes O to win" gameplay that we've had since the first one. How anyone can be excited for this is beyond me.

The fact that Origins just came out makes me think this game was rushed, even if it's not the same people making it.

I have a feeling with the Arkham Knight being the epilogue. We'll see maybe a connected DC video game universe here. Although this idea sounds terrible on paper even to me it's all in the execution

It can't be as bad as the cinematic universe they're trying to get off the ground. And to seriously answer your question they'd be given a much longer development cycle which with that factor A new Superman game couldn't even be 25% of the trainwreck N64 was

I predict them to make a different DC game with a similar engine. I mean, they did say (or at least I read) that in Arkham Knight, they're going outside of Gotham for the Batmobile to be able to be used. That could be an easy way to adapt into a different DC game, while still making this the "Finale of the Batman Series."
I don't condone that idea, but I could see them doing it.
