Ummm....it wasn't after his death.....he literally made a movie at the same time, lol. Dude.... No. This Is It (the song) was recorded years... YEARS before the movie (before thriller) and Had literally nothing to do with the movie. It was going to be released with the "This Is It" tour & Was shelved after his death as an un-mastered song. It wasn't until September of that year (a month after his death) that they decided to release it to coincide with the release of the "This Is It" Movie. It was mastered and remixed a little, after his death, Meaning that only after his death was the song 100% finished and ready for public release, That also means "This Is It" was indeed an after death song. The song was planned to be released with the movie way before......

This was obviously going to happen... I can't think of a single person/group/band that hasn't had music released after their death/a death. 2 Pac, B.I.G, John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, Queen, Aaliyah, Lisa Left Eye' Lopez, Luther Vandross, Ect. Hell even Michael Jackson has had songs released after his death (This Is It)...... Christ Michael even had an album released after his death already (Michael in 2010) Why this is making the news is beyond me. It's not really that it's making the news, it's that he's way more important than literally ALL of those people, even if you dont' like him. Also, you forgot the most important one...Johnny Cash. Also, This is It wasn't an after-death release. He made it and died after it was made and planned. These songs are songs that he recorded and wrote on his free time as opposed to being part of a CD. I do however agree that they happen all of the time. To be fair Michael Jackson hadn't been Motown for years anyway. Didn't "find" the songs until 4 months after he died. What, were they stuck under his bed? Anyway it's probably just 75 minutes of his family arguing over his estate. No, they were his personal recordings that he didn't allow anybody to use. They didn't care to reveal it until 4 months after his death, they probably found them before that, but that's when they announced they found them. are we saying the documentary wasn't planned (which my family skipped bible class to see in theaters) or the release of the song? Because technically had he lived the documentary wouldn't have happened. According to Wikipedia MJ had a shit ton of unreleased material not that I plan on buying it, so I'm curious what took them so long to make a whole posthumous album out of it.

Also did Lennon really have that many posthumous recordings other than the demos they used for the Anthology?

I'm with Tom in that I don't think they'd have released the movie if he didn't die, but with the amount of debt Michael was in, it wouldn't surprise me if that were the plan

I think they would have released the documentary due to this tour being his last one. They would have documented everything about the tour, and sold it to his fans. That's a no brainer.

After having the chance to listen to this album, I have to say that most of the "modernized" versions sound like shit compared to the original versions released with the Deluxe Edition. The originals just sound authentic & like something that Michael would have wanted to be released over the "Timbaland versions".

Timbaland ruined "A Place With No Name" for real.
compared to this:

Timbaland ruined "A Place With No Name" for real. compared to this: but he did make Blue Gangsta and Love never felt so good sound better (minus the timberlake verse) so X-scape is a mixed bag but definitely better than the Michael album

Add in his health problems and I really don't think Michael would put out much had he lived past the tour

I like "Love Never Felt So Good." a majority of the "Timbaland" stuff on X-scape to my ears sounds like something he would've put out himself. So it's an improvement over his last posthumous album for sure
