...Why is J.R.R. Tolkien getting nagged out by Samuel L. Jackson?

...Why is J.R.R. Tolkien getting nagged out by Samuel L. Jackson? I think that's just how most people imagine a generic "angry black man."

I swear I remember that there was at least one good black guy in LOTR. Also, didn't Eowyn kill the Mouth of Sauron?

I swear I remember that there was at least one good black guy in LOTR. Also, didn't Eowyn kill the Mouth of Sauron? She killed the Witch King of Angmar. Also you should probably reread that panel. I think you misread it. And no, there was no good black guy in LotR or The Hobbit. Tolkien did however mention in several of his letters that not all of the black people in his world were evil.

Yeah, I always confuse the Witch King and Mouth of Sauron. Word of god, then?

I think you misread it. And no, there was no good black guy in LotR or The Hobbit. Tolkien did however mention in several of his letters that not all of the black people in his world were evil. ... the world Tolkien was writing about was a fantasy version of Eurasia in the middle ages with different geography. It stands entirely to reason that when the world went to war, they did so in racial groups. Like soon says, it was in no way intended as a negative or positive comment on any group in it's entirety. You may have noticed that within the "noble" groups (Gondorians, Rohirrim, etc) there were evil people. It's safe to assume that within the Haradrim, there were good men who opposed the war, etc. In a broader sense, it's also a little silly to assume that every single human that marched for Sauron was "evil." That's like saying that every German in Hitler's army was "evil." It's simply not realistic. They marched in service of an evil cause, but they may have been doing it for other reasons. Ultimately though, the point is... IT'S A $#@!ING STORY YOU TWITS STOP OVERANALYZING IT SO THAT YOU CAN HAVE THINGS TO BE OFFENDED ABOUT.

Objectivity young man. You can dislike a person and still enjoy things that they do. Oh, you meant as a person? I thought you meant as an actor. I don't like him as an actor. I think he's extremely limited and tends to take awful scripts. That still doesn't mean he's never been in anything entertaining (I won't call Face/Off "good" because objectively, it wasn't, but I still loved watching it).
