I'm quite surprised we didn't already have one.
Anyway, Axl Rose has been voted the greatest vocalist of all time.

That wasn't done by vote Gremer. It was a "study" that showed Axl Rose had the biggest vocal range out of every singer that has ever done anything of note.

Neither Axl nor Ozzy are the best singers ever in my opinion. Not in range or anything else. Prince has a bigger range than Axl for Pete's sake.

6 people got arrested for being happy.
To be fair though it's because they had done a fan made video of that crappy "I'm Happy" song, so it's completely understandable.

So, it's not a matter of me liking him more than Axl (who I like). Ozzy on the other hand I dislike.

Axl has recorded notes in a much broader range than Prince, or just about anybody else apparently. His range is (apparently) enormous. I wouldn't have personally thought so, I mostly remember him being pretty high pitched, but that's not what the study says *shrugs*

I just want to say that having a larger range doesn't make you a better singer either. Let alone, the best (which is purely an opinion).

Range is not an objective indicator of vocal talent. *eyeroll, mic drop, walk off* ....I never said that. But having a larger range doesn't mean you're the best singer. I could hit notes lower than Johnny Cash (believe me, I'm a tenor mostly, so this is saying a lot), but it doesn't mean that I'm better than Johnny Cash at singing. There's a lot more to singing than range.

There's a lot more to singing than range. ... objectively, Johnny Cash is a terrible singer. I think you're confusing the difference between being a "musical entertainer" and being a "singer." There are most certainly objective methods by which you can determine how good of a singer someone is, and vocal range is an enormous part of that. Operatic singers are, literally, ranked by their ability to reliably hit and maintain very high and very low notes.

Well, having flexibility of voice doesn't necessarily mean that you are, in fact, the "best singer". That would be like saying that someone who's skilled with many mediums is the "best" artist. It's an indication of talent, no doubt, and a good way to gauge individual ability. Calling someone the "best" is highly subjective though. Having talent isn't enough, it depends on what you do with it.
That's not to say that Axl Rose isn't talented. He obviously is. I just hate his voice, myself.

If you want to talk about subjective systems of determination, then Axl Rose also scores massive points for having a ridiculous number of record sales despite having a relatively tiny number of actual album releases compared to others in his medium...
