You know what actually surprises me on this list? How small Steve Perry's vocal range is. I would have thought he would be much higher on the list. I guess I can't recall him ever having hit any lower notes, but for some reason I just assumed that he could.

Yea, I think it's partially because of the GnR songs I do know I've been completely burned out on all of them. Yeah okay whatever, I'm not talking about "liking" here. I'm talking about vocal ability. I was talking about liking, I used the word "prefer" I have no problem with someone thinking that Rose has a better vocal ability, he probably does in terms of range.

Erm, yes. If there's an accepted standard for deciding that someone is, factually and inarguably "the best singer" in the world, then by all means tell me the process that's used to determine such a thing and why it does not boil down to personal opinion. While you're at it tell me who was chosen as the best and when the scientists got together to announce their findings. www.concerthotels.com/worlds-greatest-vocal-rangesBane said that determining the "best singer" comes down to subjective opinion. You said he was wrong, so I asked you to show me how such a thing is decided. Instead you produced a list of singers who have the widest vocal ranges, which unlike a search for the "best singer" is something that can be quantified. - In other words, exactly what I said.

Right, which is why my point is not; "Axl Rose is the best singer ever, how dare you say he's not???" My point IS; "Axl Rose has met objective and subjective standards that one might reasonably apply to determine the best singer ever, so it's patently absurd to act like nobody could ever reasonably claim that he is, in fact, the best singer ever."

Nobody said they couldn't think he was the best singer (please, if I did, point me to it. I'd like to see it). I did in fact say that nobody can claim by range or whatever other singing skill is out there, who the best singer is by "proving" it.....like they tried to do because he apparently has the largest singing range.

(It's equally silly to argue with the tagline for an article when, if you read the article itself, they don't actually claim that he is "the best" or "the greatest"... only that he has the greatest vocal range, which is scientifically accurate, if arguable) If the article simply stated that, somehow, Axl Rose was found to have the greatest vocal range then that's perfectly fine. It's something that can be established as actual fact using measurement and empirical research and if the results are truthful, they can't be disputed. What I take issue with is the attitude that, simply because he has great range, it automatically means that he's also one of the best singers. I'm not saying that he isn't the best (I don't think he is, but whatever). I'm not even saying that he couldn't be ONE of the best. I'm simply saying that vocal range- which is made up of varying degrees that can be gauged and scientifically confirmed- does not just magically translate to being "one of the best singers"- which is not. That I have "double jointed" fingers is a fact. That I can do "the best" tricks with them is not.

My point IS; "Axl Rose has met objective and subjective standards that one might reasonably apply to determine the best singer ever, so it's patently absurd to act like nobody could ever reasonably claim that he is, in fact, the best singer ever." And had you originally worded your comments in such a neutral way as to include phrases such as "standards that one might reasonably apply" and "reasonably claim" then I don't think there would have been any dispute to begin with. Does Axl Rose have superior vocal range? According to an allegedly scientific study, yes. Does this prove that he's one of the best singers in the world? No. While it can be used to support an argument about the quality of his voice, it can't conclusively determine a position of greatness among fellow singers because such a ranking would, by its very reliance on the vague and malleable word "best", inevitably boil down to subjective and unquantifiable criteria.

I would think that should be obvious, given what my posts were in reaction to.

So my grandfather, (the one who is unfortunately sick in the hospital) was named an official honorary Clinch Mountain Boy (Ralph Stanley Bluegrass Band formed in the 40's) over the weekend. Mostly because he has helped emceeing Ralph Stanley shows for over 40 years. I'm proud of him.

Actually, I was a bit wrong on that. This year would have been his 40th year had he been healthy enough to emcee. He emcees the annual Ralph Stanley Memorial Music Festival every year and that's where they were going to present the award to him. My uncle accepted the award on his behalf.

Neither Axl nor Ozzy are the best singers ever in my opinion. Not in range or anything else. Prince has a bigger range than Axl for Pete's sake. somebody mentioned Prince and it wasn't me... That doesn't happen often

From Yahoo News:
"One Direction stars Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson have been caught on camera smoking what looks like a marijuana cigarette.
The band is currently on their Where We Are Tour, which took the stars to Peru on April 27.
In a video posted on MailOnline, Tomlinson and Malik are seen inside a vehicle on the day they performed at the Estadio Nacional in Lima.
"So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days!" Tomlinson is heard saying.
There are three other people in the car, although they are not the other band members - Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan - who travelled separately.
"It's about the joint. What a great thing to capture in a different language," Tomlinson says as the camera keeps rolling.
One of the other men is then heard asking: "Are we allowed to talk contraband in this?"
Tomlinson quickly replies: "Yes, that's what it is about."
The singer is then heard joking about a police bike which is escorting the vehicle.
"He's thinking, 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substance in there.' And he's hit the nail on the head," Tomlinson says.
The video, posted on the MailOnline website, also shows Malik smoking the marijuana cigarette"

I'd love to hate 1D for that, but then I think about what Rock stars do in their free time...
