People also happen to be selling PS4s for over 800 dollars and people are STILL swarming them like flies to a dead cow.

Yeah when the wii launched I sold mine on EBAY. Made some pretty good money doing it, I just didn't think this generation of consoles would garner the same demand.

I have NO idea why so many people seemed to share Ethan's belief that this generation wasn't going to do what the previous "Next" Generations did, and more, in terms of making people stupid. Of course this Generation was going to be a HUGE deal for the Christmas shopping rush.

..As in, people are buying the actual empty box that the system came in?
...
...I guess someone out there wants their fort to be more prestigious.

..As in, people are buying the actual empty box that the system came in? My theory is that these are hardcore XBox fans who passionately want the "Day One" box for their collection.

Of course this Generation was going to be a HUGE deal for the Christmas shopping rush. Honestly I thought with the lack of games at launch and then just the constant talk about economic issue; I really believed people would save their money. I stand corrected, I agree with your view point ; clearly people are stupid. I wish I had done what I did at last launch buy the console and sell it for two or three times what I bought it for.

LOL "live in an Xbox package. Cheers". As big as the original Xbox package was though, that would have been the better home. That machine was like a refrigerator.
I think Knight's onto something. While I don't throw away system boxes myself (haven't since the mid 90s anyway) and don't really understand why someone would buy one, it would make sense if those people can't for some reason get a system on day one and want the package to complete some kind of silly collection.
Though, wait...if someone is willing to drop hundreds of dollars on an empty cardboard box, then wouldn't they likely have enough of an income to just buy a whole Xbox One?
That does it, science has proven that this makes absolutely no sense.

So the amount of the money they spend on it now will be less than what they can resell it for in the future. Besides that I can't understand why anyone would buy it fanboy or not.

Just remember; ALL collections are ridiculous to people that don't understand the passion.
To me, spending thousands of dollars on shoes that you will never wear is just plain ludicrous, yet many people collect shoes. I'm sure they feel the same about my fetish for collecting little plastic figures.
(Related; I saw the Bruno Sammartino Elite figure at Meijier yesterday, Black Friday priced at $10... and still didn't buy it because it's a horrible looking figure)

Hmm, at that price I'd buy it based on the historical significance.
As for thousand dollar Air Jordans and 800 dollar cardboard boxes though, there's no excusing that. That's just plain stupid.

That does it, science has proven that this makes absolutely no sense. Considering the fact that most Xboxes for this year are completely sold out, and have been since the day after E3, I doubt many people were able to get the day one Xboxes.
