I've never played any Zelda game, and I probably won't. Usually when there's a lot of fanboys, it's probably a terrible game (series). I find that it depends on the fanboys in question. I was a diehard fan of Grand Theft auto years before 98% of the other mother f***ers out there yet by the third game (the first one in 3d, aka the first one that most people suddenly decided to care about) everyone was humping the franchise like a bunch of ***ually frustrated primates. Ask me and I'll tell you why I've always found the series to be appealing and why it was good before everyone else jumped on board. Ask any of them and you'll hear a bunch of randomized grunts, frat boy gibberish and the occasional claim that if you don't like it you're probably a homo***ual. I never cared for GTA. I was more talking about Skyrim, Zelda, CoD (even though I've played a few of the games), Halo, etc. They either don't appeal to me or they're terrible.

"Sense of accomplishment" is only a thing if you give a $#@! in the first place. I keep forgetting that you've said you don't like to be challenged when you play video games. That's not a knock, Zelda isn't really for a casual fan- they're designed to constantly (and perpetually) challenge the player into navigating mazes and solving puzzles. I'm much more of a casual fan than most so normally I wouldn't go for this kind of thing, I think that I stuck with Zelda as long as I did because I felt that it was a well-designed execution of the concept and, perhaps more importantly, had been with the series since before such a time that I developed more specific genre preferences.

Nintendo Franchise Fanboys are, in my experience, some of the most blatantly obnoxious, particularly in their complete inability to comprehend why someone else might not feel the same way about their beloved games. Added to the fact that I genuinely believe almost all of the love for those games comes from nothing more than childhood memories/nostalgia... I'd honestly rather be stuck with a bunch of Halo Bros than Smash Bros any day of the week.

I know you weren't specifying GTA, I was using it as an example of how certain fans will make something less appealing by their level of obnoxiousness. Though now that you mention it you've knocked off several of the major franchises so I'd be curious as to what major series you actually like.

Also Batman: Arkham games, and Assassin's Creed.

keep forgetting that you've said you don't like to be challenged when you play video games. I don't mind being challenged, if I care in the first place. I found ACII pretty challenging, but getting through it felt good. The story progressed and it felt like Ezio was going somewhere. There is no equivalent to that in Zelda as far as I'm concerned. My point about challenge and video games is that I don't think ALL games need to be "challenging." At this point in the history of gaming, there is no real reason why EVERY game should need to be anything... there should be enough variety for different players and different situations.

Still, It's got to be pretty difficult for the ones that aren't to defend themselves against guys like you two being that you've already decided that it's virtually impossible for them to actually devote significant time to these games simply because they have a mind of their own and find them legitimately appealing.

At this point in the history of gaming, there is no real reason why EVERY game should need to be anything... there should be enough variety for different players and different situations. But there are games that appeal to a variety of different players and different situations, which is why it's difficult for me to understand why that philosophy flies out the window when you encounter a game that doesn't personally appeal to you and as a result you decide that it only exists because people are stupid. You both bring up a perfect example though. I played ACII, I thought that it was a relatively boring and massively overhyped waste of time. The difference between us is that I don't think you two are braindead mongoloids who only like it because it's a famous series. You were entertained by something that I wasn't and my knee-jerk reaction isn't to simplistically dismiss you as inferior fanboys because of it. I just don't really get that mentality. I rip on Valve and Halo fans constantly but I almost always take time out to clarify that the games appear to be well-made and offer things that other people seem to enjoy. I don't recall ever saying that the majority of those fans only enjoy those games because they are, essentially, too stupid to graduate to something I myself happen to approve of.

I love Zelda games, and Nintendo. Is it partly nostalgia? Of course. What's wrong with playing a game that's very old? I'm just now getting around to beating Link's Awakening and that game is as old as the hills. I've had pretty good fun with it though. Zelda's do have repetitive gameplay but I've always enjoyed them. The stories usually have some differences about them, there not all just "go save the princess". Though that tends to be the main goal in most of them, it's not in all of them and the backstories of some of them I find to be pretty interesting.
Of course I'm a person, that in 1994 was shoved in front of Zelda: Link to the Past and I've loved it since. I still love that game and no not because it's childhood memories (though it contains a lot) but because I think it's a great game.

Or do you honestly just believe that everyone who likes something that you don't has to be one?

I love the beginning when you get out of bed with nothing and have to find your way to a secret passage in the castle. Do you know how long I was stuck at this part? lol. And then afterwards the world itself is pretty big for its time and I like just traveling from area to are beating temples and finding all of the items like pieces of heart, items, etc. Some of the characters are also pretty cool and I enjoy the boss fights. I think the Zelda series has some of the best boss fights. I never have completed A Link to the Past though. I'll get around to it someday. Yes I realize I just named the likes of almost all Zelda games but the above reasons is I do like them all. Though some I've enjoyed more than others because story differences, world sizes, different items, etc.

Not going to argue with that. I've never played a lot of Final Fantasy but I did once watch an entire walkthrough to Final Fantasy IV (2 in America). and it seemed like it'd be hard without one. I did so because I was at a job at the time where I was on a computer a LOT and not doing anything, so it was really out of sheer boredom.

I can't honestly say that I did. While I did complete the original Final Fantasy in its debut year of 1990, I was also a subscriber to Nintendo Power and that same year they released a strategy guide that thoroughly covered the game. Though I may have eventually finished it on my own, it would have taken me much longer and I simply didn't have the willpower to try (and in those days, doing so was a bitch because if you didn't own the game you were stuck with renting a copy and trying to beat it in a single rental period or hoping that your old save would still be on it next time). Nice to be reminded of the original from time to time though, I forgot that the series used to be, you know...a fantasy game, not a pompous, pretentious, melodramatic. androgynous emo-femme fap-off.

The first time I tried to play through it took me a solid year to get to the first temple of the dark world. Keep in mind it was my first Zelda at the time and I was very limited in gaming expierience at the time. Very limited. My second playthrough of it was around 2005 or 2006 on the GBA version and if I remember right I got to about the 3rd or 4th temple in the dark world. I do plan to beat it someday. Zelda games I have beathen Link to the Past Windwaker Twilight Princess Skyward Sword Pretty soon I'll be beating Link's Awakening as I just reached the last temple this morning.
