What do you or don't you like about the long-time running TV Sci-Fi show Doctor Who?

Love the new series... iffy on the pre-reboot stuff.

People have been telling me for years that I should watch Doctor Who and that I'd like it. Some of the concepts do admittedly sound interesting but my tolerance for a lot of British television- to say nothing of just about any television or movie from the 60s- is relatively low. So I dunno.
I look at it this way- I never watched The Walking Dead or Sopranos because, in each case, by the time I had developed the interest and motivation to check the shows out they were already far enough along that I didn't feel like watching a bunch of prior episodes to get myself caught up. I felt too "out of the loop". If I have difficulty getting around to watching a show that's only four or five seasons along, am I really going to get into the one that just celebrated its fiftieth anniversary?

I have no idea whether you'd like Dr. Who or not... but you really don't have to catch up on 50 years of history. The reboot really is a distinct product from the original, including several fairly major story differences. They've started referencing the old show a lot more often in recent seasons, but it's hardly a mandatory thing (and Dr. Who in general is MUCH more episodic than, say, Walking Dead, which requires you to actually know what's going on)
... but if you do decide to check out a new show, I could recommend half a dozen (with Walking Dead being the very first) that are better than Doctor Who 8)

I turned away from Doctor Who after they made an entire movie which blatantly mocked God.

I turned away from Doctor Who after they made an entire movie which blatantly mocked God. WHAT!? Now I actually have a logical reason to hate the British...

So who is ready for Series 8 featuring The Twelth Doctor in Peter Capaldi and the returning companion of Clara Oswald who first appear as a companion alongside the Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith.
The series is back on Augsut 23rd. Don't know if its the same worldwide being televised at the same time but different dates or what?
I can't wait to see what Capaldi does with this role. I also have seen from the trailers, that the show has now come to fruition of almost looking like a movie. This can either be a good thing for the series or be a bad thing. Who knows.

Doctor who? I love that show. 9th one was the best. Eccleston. He wasnt too bad. A good way to re-package the doctor, wasn't as loveable or enjoyable as Tennent and Smith. To each their own opinion though. I've been watching the classic WHO series and i like that too. Davidson and Baker are currently my faves. Haven't seen the others too much.

Never seen it. I have a phobia of Doctors. I turned away from Doctor Who after they made an entire movie which blatantly mocked God. WHAT!? Now I actually have a logical reason to hate the British... Screw logic, I have just as much success hating those suckers without it.

I used to be quite into it, when it was Eccleston and Tennant, but I got a bit fed up with it by the time Smith came along, because it felt like every episode was the same with a new alien. I've no idea if that's actually true, but it's what I felt like. I have a friend who's a fanatic about it though, he knows everything about every series of it.
And there's plenty of other British TV shows that are worth watching.

Christopher Eccleston was the best Doctor. Most people seem to prefer Tennant though.

I don't watch Game of Thrones and Doctor Who for the same reason: it's just not my thing. "BUT AARON, GoT is full of political themes and full of blood, gore and incest!! Sure it's incest, but it's sex nonetheless!" Okay, AND? btw dude, you're into some weird shit. I'll pray for you.
"It has an intriguing plot! It's full of war and drama that stems from betrayal and such! And Daenerys is fucking HOT!!" 1. I'm pretty sure that the whole thing that caused the events in GoT was that the guy in power had a Julius Caesar pulled on him, except he saw it coming. 2. You know what else has drama that stems from betrayal and such? Real-life politics. 3. Okay....
