I keep hearing great things about both Hunger Games movies, the newest one especially. I'm not at all familiar with the books but supposedly they and the films are all really good, the second film in particular being praised as closer to the source material. I'm looking forward to the next Hobbit as well. I catch, or try to catch, a movie at the theater every Christmas Eve. It's a tradition going back to when i was a kid. Last year I had a lot of fun at An Unexpected Journey and with all this buzz that the new one is a darker, tighter, and generally more satisfying Hobbit film I'm getting really anxious to check it out. I recommend them. Very good movies. Not to many movies with a grand scale are good and these are. Hobbit was a pleasant watch last as well I'm looking forward to it. I think Martin freeman(bilbo) is a underated actor Yeah I've heard nothing but good things. It seemed like an interesting premise to begin with and once the movie immediately blew up as an immense blockbuster and everyone was talking about it my attention was piqued. Like many things I just haven't decided to sit down and give it a look yet but I think I'll enjoy it. As for Martin freeman, some people complained about him as Bilbo but I don't really know why, he struck me as a great casting choice. This is subjective of course but I saw Bilbo in his face immediately and I correctly anticipated many of the mannerisms that he did indeed wind up bringing to the screen. Though I had my issues with An Unexpected Journey he wasn't one of them, and if the next movie's supposed to be even better then I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

I'm really kind of iffy on that one. The trailer and atmosphere seemed well done, and the actor who portrayed the villain looked like he was compellingly creepy. I'm also a fan of John Goodman. But I don't know- I go really back and forth on Kevin Smith these days, and I'm not exactly sure what the movie's supposed to be. Is it a drama? A thriller? Political propoganda? A horror film? I just don't know what to expect and my choosy nature has kept me at a curious but safe distance thus far.

Personally I like the Hunger Game books, but they are incredibly overrated, though I absolutely love all the classical literature references in the books.

Only about 5/10 minutes left then. You gotta be kidding me Nope All you missed was {Spoiler} She destroyed the dome shield with the arrow and gets picked up by one of the ships that were picking up the tributes through the games.
When she wakes up, the gamesmaker dude is there with Gale and they explain to her that they are the rebellion and they need her, informing her also that Peeta has been captured by Snow. Turns out that half the tributes were part of the rebellion (including the blonde dude that helps her all throughout and their only job was to make sure she survived so they could get her out of there as this was the plan all along - to make sure that Snow thinks she's dead so she can lead the rebellion to take on the capital.

I was watching the new hunger games yesterday. I had to leave and missed the last 30 mins. I liked what I saw. Jennifer Lawrence is so pretty. Philip Seymour Hoffman is just plain awesome in everything, woody harrelson nuff said, Donald Sutherland that evil bastard. Elizabeth banks fantastic actress I keep hearing great things about both Hunger Games movies, the newest one especially. I'm not at all familiar with the books but supposedly they and the films are all really good, the second film in particular being praised as closer to the source material. I did like the catching fire movie. The Hobbit: DoS I'm looking forward to immensely, so to Anchorman 2. Well, the first film and book they kept pretty tight on the source material (at least as far as I've read it, currently reading through them now) which is nice to see. The DoS film looks darker because I believe a fair bit of it is Gandalf looking for the Necromancer (stuff that didn't actually happen on page in the Hobbit) which will be intriguing to see at the least.

I personally thought the first Hobbit movie kept to the book quite well, with the exception of Radaghast.
The new Hobbit movie however? Well based on the trailer I'd say, NOPE.

First one kept to the Hobbit more than Jackson kept to Lord of the Rings, that's for sure. Second one will explore the off page stuff more and randomly insert Legolas into it.

Of course most people don't realize how light hearted The Hobbit was. It's strange how the claim the movie is closer to the source material because it has a darker theme...

Maybe that's why people are saying that it's more like the original Rings trilogy. XD In all seriousness Jackson most certainly made changes from the books, several of which struck me as unnecessary, but I found the films to be extremely entertaining regardless and likely as good a LOTR trilogy as I feel we could reasonably have expected. I thought that An Unexpected Journey was good but not great, a movie that was pleasantly similar to the book yet a little overlong and a little lacking in character development (the latter problem which, in all fairness, is directly attributable to the source material). It was entertaining, it was just kind of laborious at times and occasionally became a little too light and comical for my tastes. The early word on the street is that the upcoming film skews more adult, more adventurous (unintentional Rilo Kiley reference. Check out the album) and generally just more exciting and fun. Can't wait to check it out.

He's saying that people are claiming the new film is "darker", or at least more serious in tone (which they are) which is ironic considering that the book this movie is based on is relatively light and family-friendly. Even during the Del Toro days they did always agree that the new films would start out light and edge toward darker territory, not just to create a smooth bridge to the LOTR trilogy but also because the plan all along was to include scenes that happened during The Hobbit but were only discussed in the appendices of the later books. Supposedly Peter Jackson has claimed that The Desolation of Smaug is his favorite of the films that he's made.
