The government in Avengers isn't an antagonist, really. They're a more or less neutral party that both aids and hinders the heroic group as they go about their work, much like the Gondorians in Lord of the Rings 8)
It's easy to paint the gov't as villainous for wanting to nuke NYC (which doesn't seem like that big of a loss to me personally...), but when you consider that the stakes were a few million people vs. alien domination of the entire globe? It's a pretty big grey area.

That's different. The government in that film was portrayed as antagonists, and therefore they were. In the Batman films Gordon was portrayed as a protagonist, and therefore he was. ...What? They weren't antagonists, more like idiotic side characters. They were indeed antagonists, but minor ones.

In the books however the Steward has quite a bit more depth to him, which is pretty weird since the movies were characters focused whereas the books were not.

I would say that his motivations are better explained.

Hey Mike that was an interesting comment you made. Hey thanks! Despite the fact that my comment could have been ignored wholesale it felt good to be acknowledged as part of the conversation.

I wonder why Mike isn't getting in on this conversation. I'm not sure... You would think he would being the huge comic nerd that he is... He even named himself after the Mole Man for Pete's cake...

The follow-ups made it all worth it.

Apparently Black Cat is also going to be in the film... ... because it needed more characters 10 to 1 says they take a character primarily known for her cleavage and not much else, and hire an actress with C cups to play her 8)

BTW, I don't know a single fan of the Toby-Spider movies who liked or defended 3 LOL I was working at Blockbuster at the time and my manager and coworkers got into an hours-long debate about whether the film was as good as the second one. The consensus was that it wasn't- but was very close- and since I hadn't yet seen it I didn't yet know that these other people were retarded. My brother in-law loves it too but to be fair he'd love a piece of dog crap if it looked like Spidey.

In the interest of fairness, I'm a HUGE fan of Eddie Brock, the original Venom in the comics... and what they did to his character in that movie was horrendous... but I still think I'm objective enough to say it was a terrible movie all-around.

I thought there were some shots where the Sandman looked kind of cool. And I guess I'm the only guy on Earth who still thinks that Kirsten Dunst is hot. Other than that, yeah. I liked nothing about Spider-Man 3.

Kirsten Dunst? Yeah, she's downright fugly. You're on your own.

This could still be good, but I'm with a lot of you. It looks like they are trying to ramp up towards the sinister 6. Which is too much is it so hard to have one and at most two villains? I'm still looking forward to it, if they just make Rhino a minor thing then I think it'll still be good.

There's a lot of hate for Dunst these days and I've never really understood it. I've always found her attractive.
