Actually a lot of current rock and metal bands still write their own stuff, it's just never played on the radio because they're to busy playing sh*t

Somewhere, Smokey Robinson is SUPER glad that singers have NEVER mostly written their own music, as he rolls around in giant piles of money from royalties 8)

Ah, the tears of a clown. I'm not crying, so I don't know what you're talking about. I mean, I was earlier, but that was from laughing so hard at the VGAs. *Honk*

Of course ever since Ronnie died his brother has been living off his legacy... Musicians who write their own music aren't exactly rare... but I always kind of chuckle when people act like it's "how it should be" or "how it used to be." Nothing could be further from the truth. A lot of times, great music comes from collaboration. Sometimes a person can write an amazing song, but isn't the best person to perform it. Sometimes a performer knows what they want to express, but can't properly put it to paper.

Ronnie VanZant was able to do both fortunately, and all of their songs were incredible, even the ones that didn't end up famous.

Anyhow on the topic of crappy music Rebecca Black released a sequel to her song "Friday" called "Saturday."
Hopefully the world can survive Armageddon #2.

It's been done for years, having someone write the music. I'm not really all that bothered by that aspect, but if you're going to go that route, atleast be able to sing.

Knight is right.
However, I think if you are an artists you should write most of your songs or at least be a part of writing most of them. It's fine to do covers every once in a while though or have another songwriter write a song for you if the song they've written isn't exactly for them.

I could be wrong, but I kind of feel like nobody is going to care. If I may use a "sleeping around" analogy for a moment... Rebecca Black isn't the crazy ex-girlfriend that keeps showing back up in your life causing all kinds of chaos. That's Lady Gaga. Rebecca Black is more like the girl you meet at a random party, think she might be a lot of fun, sleep with her, and then realize she's actually really boring when you're sober, and never want to see her again. Given... but famous musicians who can't sing all that well aren't exactly a new thing either.

This is a really bad thing to say but I honestly can't believe that Bob Dylan isn't dead.

Yeah I mean his big comeback (which was actually rather good, in my opinion) was almost twenty years ago. And he was already essentially a corpse by then. I mean, jeez.

Eh, casual fan I suppose. I have about six of his songs on my ipod, if that counts. Far from my favorite '60s performer.
