Then read them again mother fudger. I've thought about it. I'm very impatient when it comes to fiction. While I am a huge fan of LotR... if you're in the market for fiction, there are a whole bunch of books I'd put in your face before re-reading LotR. I believe everyone should read it once, but it's a pretty intensive experience for repeated reading if you're not REALLY into the lore (I re-read it every third year)

I read Lord of the Rings every 5 years and the hobbit every 2 years. I've to this day never completed The Silmarillion.

I personally think they should make at least one of the Lord of the Rings books required reading in school.
Instead we get Bushnit crap like Mark Twain, Shakespeare, and Sophocles.
Who the hell wants to read those guys?

Also it was partially sarcasm. I really do think that Lord of the Rings should be required in school.

Oedipus Rex? Sure that's what I want middle school kids reading 8) Remember, I live in Arkansas. People here struggled to understand Oedipus Rex and even Julius Caesar for some reason. They rely way too much on Spark Notes. This is what society is coming to unfortunately. The people in my class didn't even have a clue as to what Machiavelli was saying in The Prince even. I truly don't understand such simplicity...

But yes, apparently the minimum of sentences required for a paragraph in an essay here is 3.
Back in 3rd grade when I wrote my first essay we needed at least 5 sentences, and I carried that minimum straight up until I got to Arakansas.
It's sad when Mississippi has higher standards than this state...

I would say that not understanding Machiavelli is better for people 8) And why would that be? It's hilarious to look at all the times he contradicts himself. I'm fairly certain The Prince is written mostly in satire.

I'm fairly certain The Prince is written mostly in satire. I just think he mistakes self-interest for logic entirely too often. He pretends at being a dispassionate observer, but he's having a passionate love affair with himself 8)

Of course my English teacher taught it as if it was actually what Machiavelli thought.
