Brazilian journalist Ana Maria Bahiana is a bolder woman than I, for she has just shared something which is either incredibly brave or incredibly foolish, and foolish in a way that will set the internet alight with cries of "This isn't true!"
(TWEET IS INSIDE LEAK)
For those of you who are not versed in Portuguese then here is the translation:
I just know from a good source - Ben Affleck will not be Batman. Fan reaction was too strong. Official announcement in a few months.
The spurious nature of this tweet, with it's unconfirmed sources means that it holds no weight whatsoever. It does, however, raise an interesting point in relation to Warner Bros. and the casting process, which has proven to be a tireless trigger for many comic book fans' outrage over the past year; including the controversial casting of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
I'm curious as to whether the studios are actually now paying attention, causing them to bow down to pressure from incredibly displeased fans. On top of the news that Affleck hurt his ribs (or his leg, depending on what source you read) during a ski trip over the holidays, and the news that Batman vs. Superman will be delayed until 2016, there's also the issue that due to the delay, Affleck might have scheduling conflicts now. So while the rumor is to be taken with a grain of salt and improbable, it's not impossible.
As for whether or not the rumors prove to be true, we'll just have to watch this space. If Affleck does have to step down, who should replace him? What are your thoughts?
