lol, I freakin loved Booker on commentary He was entertaining in a bad way on Smackdown but he actually gave me a reason to watch just to laugh at his commentary. |

I couldn't take Booker on commentary because it always bothers me when intelligent people choose to speak like they've never heard of proper English. I get that he was playing a character, but the character got on my nerves.

In the 3 years I've watched wrestling, none of the commentators were really any good. I do think that Booker, JBL, and J.R. can be unintentionally hilarious, though.

LawlOr was a decent promo in his day but he was always awful behind the desk. when he was a heel he cackled at his own awful jokes. when he was a face he yelled puppies and cackled at his own jokes. he was all around terrible and just about everyone being the worst is just plain wrong, but i'm dealing with tweens so i don't expect any of you to know Gordon Solie.. |

The only consolation I have in the fact that I was cursed to be born in a later generation thus missing out on a good majority of wrestling history is the fact that I have easier access to said history in this day and age. |

Jesse Ventura is my favorite. While Heenan always gets the vote (and understandably so, he's funny and a great commentator), Jesse's style is my favorite for the role that he had. His demeanor was unapologetically straightforward and I loved that- his attitude, as decided for him by Vince himself, was "if Jesse Ventura says it then it's true". He had the voice and intelligence to pull it off well, he was constantly putting poor Gorilla Monsoon in his place and bitching like a madman if a popular face got away with something underhanded.
More than anything though I like Jesse because he sounded like he really believed that what he was watching was real without sounding like a cartoon. Yeah, everyone raves about JR and how believable he makes things seem but to me no one was ever able to hold a candle to how legitimate Jesse's interest seemed. I compare lines like Jesse's irritated "I don't see how the fans can cheer for this guy, Hogan's as dirty as they come" with one of JR's typical animated "STUNNER! STUNNER! BY GAWD HE'S BEEN TAKEN TO HADES BY THE DEVIL HIMSELF" and I think that the quality is a world apart. While JR is fine with helping the product to feel like "entertainment", Jesse was great at making it feel like "sports".
Worst? A tie between mid 90s Vince, all Jerry Lawler, all Michael Cole, and all Tazz. I was going to include Randy Savage as well but he's at least entertainingly bad.

Taz isn't good..it seems at times his mouth can't keep up with his brain. Cole at times seems to let his guard down, at those moments he seems likable. but, his constant shilling of all things wwe is Schiavone-esque. Lawlor always sucked..good promo doesn't always translate to good commentary. |
