I don't remember anything of him other than his name, Im not sure why I remember his name though, I don't think I've ever seen him in a movie in my life.

Holy shit, this one really too me by surprise. I didn't look into the guy's private life so I had no idea he was into drugs.
Jeez, less than ten years after winning the best actor Oscar (in what was called one of the most deserving performances ever). I only saw the guy in a few movies but he was quite good in most of them (I say most because Twister doesn't count). Very surprising.

What's wrong with Twister? Or was it just his role in it?
But man 46? The man died young, he had so many years left to go, a real shame.

My wife told me about this before I lumbered off to take my pre-SuperBowl nap. I'll say the same thing I always say in these situations... the loss of the artist is a shame, but as long as our attitude toward self-destructive behavior remains a tacit approval, we've got no business being surprised when this stuff happens.

Bummer. Love me some Philip Semore Hoffman. Check out "Happiness" if you never have. I was also unaware he was into junk. Shame, but if you play in the mud you get dirty.

UPDATE:
Dude was in a bad way according to new reports from the New York Daily News. They are reporting that around 50 BAGS of heroin, 20 Unused needles and a collection of 4 Different prescription drugs were found in Hoffaman's apartment, Those 4 drugs are as follows:
1) Clonidine - used for high blood pressure 2) Vyvanse - treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder 3) Methocarbamol - a muscle relaxant 4) Hydroxyzine - used to relieve the itching caused by allergies and to control the nausea and vomiting caused by various conditions, including motion sickness.
Police say the heroin was a potent brand cut with fentanyl, a pain reliever. The bags were stamped "Ace of Spades" or "Ace of Hearts."
One addict told the Daily News that the heroin Hoffman was using is in high demand in New York City, “From what I know, it’s really good,” the addict said. "That’s what the people want. I think they’re getting it for cheap, too.
Cops are now trying to find out where the actor purchased the drugs. They are looking at surveillance footage from around the area to see if he was part of a large purchase.
