Fox Developing Marvel's PUNISHER into Live-Action TV Series  Fox has bought an hour-long drama from ABC Studios based on The Punisher, expanding Marvel’s television development slate to five live-action series. The project has been given a put-pilot commitment, meaning the pilot is guaranteed to be put into production. Deadline reports the adaptation, from Criminal Minds showrunner Ed Bernero, will transform the comic book antihero Frank Castle into a rising-star detective in the New York Police Department who moonlights as a vigilante, seeking justice for those the courts have failed. Bernero will executive produce along with Marvel. The Punisher joins The Incredible Hulk, Cloak & Dagger, AKA Jessica Jones and Mockingbird in the pipeline from ABC Studios and corporate sibling Marvel. It’s the first Marvel series to be sold outside of Disney-owned ABC. Fox Targets Punisher TV Series Spinoff Online – TV, Film and Entertainment News Daily Comments: It sounds like the same format as Showtime's Dexter. this seems like a horrible idea for a abc show. |

I like the concept of a Punisher TV show. I hate that they're changing the essential elements of the character like that. Having him still be a cop is stupid

I see no reason why we "need" those things to have a "good" Punisher show. The Punisher is about psychology, not exploding heads. |

When it see abc I don't see quality television. I'm not saying they need boobs and exploding heads but being on Netflix gives the writers more creative breathing room

I'm not saying they need boobs and exploding heads but being on Netflix gives the writers more creative breathing room I would argue just the opposite... shows on HBO, etc, have no restrictions, and the result is that they use gratuitous sex and violence to prop up creatively weak shows. The relevant elements of any given Game of Thrones episode probably constitute less than 2/3rds of the overall content of the show. The same is true of Sopranos, etc. The networks are perfectly capable of putting out good psychological dramas, meanwhile Netflix spews out plenty of absolute garbage like House of Cards. Quality is neither an inherent product of unrestricted venues, nor is it an inherent victim of restraint. There is a lot to be said for subtlety. |

I like house of cards. Kevin spacey is fantastic in it. Also punisher would have been fantastic on FX. It's Definatly a studio thing. Some studios don't really care what they out out while others have great programming(fx)

You may feel that Spacey is fantastic. I think he's incredibly lazy on the show, not putting in half the performance he's capable of, and beyond that... the writing is terrible and relies on shock value rather than actually doing anything crazy like telling a compelling story. House of Cards is the worst example I can think of, of what can go wrong with shows like The Sopranos and Game of Thrones. If the fans are willing to tune in for cheap plot twists, frequent sex scenes, and absurd amounts of bloody violence... why bother actually doing the hard work of constructing good characters and putting them in interesting situations?

That was a surprisingly good Punisher movie. I would think that given your professed preference for "less restricted" writing, you would have preferred it's "edgier" follow-up

Didn't see war zone but it look terrible and I don't prefer edgier I prefer a less restricted work enviorment when it comes to being creative
