We discussed, suggested, and flat-out requested many things at the playtest. John Cena mode was not among them. ... so that makes it all the more likely that we're getting a John Cena mode. I could be a dick and say "here's your modern wrestler mode, no more nostalgia just as you demanded last year, yada yada" but this is a mere technicality because I know that no one in their right mind would actually request nor be excited about a mode focused on John Cena. We gave absolutely no indication that we wanted such a thing during the playtest, and no one suggested it to us in return. That's not to say that we were brought there to tell them what to put in the game and that they would dutifully do so, but the point is that at no time was there anything in the air to suggest to 2K that some of the series' biggest fans were hankering for such a thing. WWE's personal wishes aside, I like to think that the game developers aren't so stupid as to believe that a John Cena story mode would actually be of interest to the majority of their customers.

Replace it with the Viagra on a pole match.

Oh, wait, you were amongst the people who insisted that 30 Years of Hogan, Austin, and Cena wasn't a nostalgia mode because it had recent matches. So the answer is "because you don't seem to share the same definition of the word nostalgia as the rest of the world."

Hypothetically speaking, what would you suggest they replace it with? The "Vs. Broom" match. Still would probably be more enjoyable than the First Blood Match

Hypothetically speaking, what would you suggest they replace it with? Well I was sitting there playing, going through the options when I saw that the inferno match was still in. Aubrey happened to be behind me so I bitched "Oh my god, man, the INFERNO match is still in? You guys need to get rid of that thing, it sucks and everybody hates it". Aubrey seemed surprised and said "Well not EVERYBODY hates it dude, there's people out there who like it". I think I casually said that those people suck, and when he (or someone nearby, don't quite recall) asked what would go in its place I said "anything".

Could replace it with bra and panties. That'd go down well with the demographic.

Still would probably be more enjoyable than the First Blood Match First Blood is only bad because people bleed so easily. If they changed the bleeding mechanic, especially if they did a new one specifically for the First Blood match similar to what they have for other "specialty" matches. They changed the mechanics of tables specifically for tables matches because they used to be stupidly easy to win (or lose)

I don't think I would ever have been in such denial. I may have argued that it's not purely based on old, dead and retired wrestlers, as you insisted, and pointed out that roughly 30 of the matches (I believe. I don't recall the exact number) involved someone who is an active wrestler or had been active within the last five years, but I don't ever recall saying that the mode was not nostalgic. That said, John Cena is a currently active wrestler (the current champion, in fact) so to be fair while a mode based around his past victories would in fact be nostalgic, it would nonetheless be focused on the current star of the company. Really it's a moot point anyway. If it happens we're all going to hate it, for a multitude of reasons.

I repeatedly talked about how they should focus on the current product. John Cena may be a current guy, but what he did 10 years ago or even two years ago says nothing about the current product.

Mainly because Prior to that I was only able to do it with a finisher.

If you go back to the "good old days" of the series, tables broke with the slightest provocation, so tables matches were typically very brief.

However, I wonder if there was ever a reason behind not being able to climb the announce table for two years

Since I've been out of the loop, I've only really seen the Cena "trailer". You're telling me there's already been a playtest for 2K15 and furthermore our own Mike went to it?

Either way, a Cena mode would be one of the best things that have ever happened to the WWE game franchise.
Ever.

If you do the front superplex it will break because wrestler foot hit it. :rotfl: But table matches are still easy if you use the announcer table.

Either way, a Cena mode would be one of the best things that have ever happened to the WWE game franchise. Ever. The level of rage would almost make it worth...almost. It also would show what WWE think of us. WWE- "You might hate Cena but you'll buy and watch our shit anyway"
