At least every single one of the fetch quests in DA:O has quite a bit of depth to it. I really find it hilarious when huge fans of Skyrim and Fallout and other RPGs hate on DA:O for having a "Crappy generic story." I usually just laugh them off and tell them to go ahead and play Final Fantasy 7.(That was an insult to FF7 by the way) I like the story so far and I'm doing a bunch of origin missions (I think that's what they're called. The very first mission) to see which story I like the best and what character I like to use more. Any suggestions what to try and who is the best to use story wise? Also, is the story different for each person/skill/background (human/mage/magi for example)? So far I have a human/warrior/I really don't know, lol and an Elf/mage/magi Well every origin story has an affect on how people treat you in their dialogue(And it's pretty extensive) but otherwise there isn't much change storywise due to the origins, but each origin feels special despite that(Because the way people treat you really does make you feel like the origin matters).

Without getting spoilers (and I'm really trying not to read most of these posts for that very reason) what did DAO do so well that DA2 did so poorly? It seems universally accepted that DAO was amazing and the follow-up was a wretched insult to the franchise. Also, is DAO the first chronological title in the series? Yes, it was first. For starters, DA:O let your choices actually matter 8) That's a huge page turner for me. If this is the case, I may enjoy the game more.

If it at least feels different, that's all I can ask for. I didn't really expect them to make that many stories, but I was talking more so about how everything revolves differently around you (people's relationships with you, their hatred towards you, etc.)

Almost every decision you make matters. Also there are a few points in the story where it seems like there are only two possible choices, but it'll turn out that there was actually a third option(If you can find it that is).

That is amazing. Now if only I can get past my time constraint and slow gameplay problems with the game, I may enjoy it. I think I'll just need some adapting to the slow gameplay. I'm sure I'll like it once I'm used to it. After I beat Singularity, I shall try DA:O again. What character do you recommend? Do you have a favorite origin or playstyle? Human Mage Elven Rogue Dwarf Warrior Anything really, lol. I'm open to any and all recommendations.

As far as which Origins I did enjoy... both of the Dwarf origins are very cool, and Dwarf Rogue is probably my 2nd favorite after Mage. The Human Noble is a good origin as it has strong threads that run through the rest of the adventure. The city elf story is compelling and great if you want to play a jackass. The only one I solidly did not like at all was the Dalish Elf.

Archery sucks hard (for your main character) in DA:O. It's a strong option in 2 though, if you ever play that. Oh, make sure you build up the "Stealing" and "Stealth" ability chains though... they open up a nice little quest chain when you get to Denerim (and pick pocketing people along the way is a nice way to pad your pockets)

Oh, make sure you build up the "Stealing" and "Stealth" ability chains though... they open up a nice little quest chain when you get to Denerim (and pick pocketing people along the way is a nice way to pad your pockets) Well, I just created it and this is what I have so far: Attributes: Strength: 11 Dexterity: 17 (which I plan on leveling up a lot) Willpower: 13 (which I may just build a little bit, but not much) Magic: 10 Cunning: 16 (which I plan on leveling up a lot) Constitution: 12 Skills (I have): Coercion (which I may or may not level up all the way to Master Coercion, depending on how much I need or use it to my advantage really) Combat Training > Improved Combat (which I'll eventually make Master Combat Training) I also plan on eventually having these (Maybe, depending on how things go and what points I need firstly): Stealing to Master Stealing maybe trap-making, but not much. Combat Tactic - Master Combat Tactics (i don't know if I'll make it master combat tactics, maybe somewhere inbetween) Talents (I have): Dirty Fighting Deft Hands (May go up to Device Mastery at some point, but I don't know) Stealth (May go up to Master Stealth at some point, but I don't know) Also, I don't know what I'll add later on, but here's a few I may add: Deft Hands > Device Mastery And obviously something from the Dual Weapon Tree, but I don't know yet. It depends on what I'll need But, like I said, these plans will all depend on the game and this is just a general idea of what I'm contemplating as the time goes by. I also have Awakening and I've heard I can just upload my character from this game onto that, is that correct?

Whether or not you need to level of Device Mastery really depends on which companions you want to bring along. Unless you want to be reliant on having another Rogue (which isn't a terrible option... if you have a ranged rogue and a melee rogue in your party, it works out fine), you pretty much need to keep your trapmonkey skills advancing.

3 in addition to your main character. You can keep all of them in your camp and switch them up between missions (which is sometimes smart, some of them are better at certain things), but you'll only have a 4 person party at any one time. I've found that if you stock up on a ton of healing potions and have a warrior with the 2-handed weapon style and his AI set to clear out groups combined with an Archer in your party (also with AI set to target groups), you don't necessarily need a mage for anything, but under most circumstances you're going to want at least one mage, one rogue, and one warrior. A lot of the time I run with one of each from my companions and whatever I'm playing... so if I'm a mage, I've got 2 mages (with different specialties obviously... you'd want 1 healer in the mix for certain), 1 warrior, and 1 rogue.
The trick to party building is to set their AI to your liking and not trust the pre-sets. You need to have at least one person who can make area attacks who is focused on wiping out groups, and you need to have at least one melee type who does tons of damage focused on taking out OBMs
