Mike Tyson was indeed a skilled boxer. his head movement was exceptional, he used subtle footwork to increase the torque on his punches, had a remarkable jab for a smaller man not to mention excellent timing when it came to counter punching. to try and claim he had no skill is either utter stupidity or laughable trolling. i'll leave it for all of you to decide...

I just wanted to point out that there is a shift key on your keyboard for a reason. You should probably use it or break your fingers by smashing them with a semi truck. |

Your claims that Tyson was ever a skilled boxer are laughable. Whatever you say. Again, I'd invite you to go find one of his Olympic matches and show me even a single round where I'm missing this highly skilled boxer that you claim he was. I've got no personal stake in Tyson's boxing skill. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong... but when I watch Mike Tyson, I see a guy who was strong enough to block a lot of shots, wait for his moment, and then throw a bone crushing bomb. That's not an extreme degree of skill, as far as I'm concerned. I already posted (at least) one of his Olympic matches to back my claim, and as I've said, I never got any response on when exactly "highly skilled" Tyson kicked in. |

In fact the only bit that I would say was even remotely accurate, much less indisputable, was that Tyson was a counter-puncher. Head movement and "subtle foot work" my flaming red ass. You know what is an indisputable fact; at one point Tyson threw the hardest punch ever digitally recorded. You know why so many guys went down to his fists? Because he could punch with enough force to shatter the bone of an ordinary man with ease. Even trained boxers weren't ready for how hard he threw. It's not like he was George "hit me all you want, you're still dead when I get my fists on you" Foreman, but he was hardly Sugar Ray Robinson, either. |

Your age doesn't define your exposure... your choice to expose yourself determines your exposure. ... and no, I"m not recommending running around exposing yourself at boxing or wrestling matches. |

Actually I said (and will stand by) that he blocked, not that he absorbed punishment. George Foreman just took shots. Mike Tyson blocked them. There's a difference. I don't dismiss his speed and reflexes. I do dismiss his footwork, and I think his "combinations" were nothing more than him being fast. I've never denied that the man was a natural born killer. He was a beast. He was strong, fast, and resilient. None of those things are "skill" though. Skill is what you learn, not what you're born with. |

his ability to throw punches with velocity and accuracy isn't a skill? the Marvis Frazier fight when he used the little hop steps to keep him trapped against the ropes isn't skill, it doesn't show knowledge of angles and how to get the best effect on his punches? no? of course not..
