So I downloaded my first song to the new laptop and went to play it, and instead of getting Windows Media Player I got this XBOX player thing.
It still played the song, and I seen shuffle and playlist options, so I guess it'd work the same. But has XBOX Media now replaced Windows Media? And do I actually need to sign up, or sing in or whatever, or can I just play my music like I did on my other laptop?

Well don't look like I need to sign up, and this XBOX app player, I'll give credit do seem to have a better sound then Windows Media. I haven't seen anything for music sliders though which is disappointing, means it's basically like Youtube, you can listen to default sound and that's it, no boosting the bass or anything, not from what I see right now anyway.

Right Click the song. You should see "Open With" & Windows Media player will be listed in that.

And if not, download VLC player. It's free and plays everything.

Any way to decide which player is your default player?
I don't have a playlist yet, I got 2 songs so far. lol. But when I do get a decent backing of songs, if I click "play all" it'll open in XBOX.
So can the default player be changed to Windows, or do I have to highlight all songs, right click and open with?
btw thanks confirming it's there.

Click "Choose Default Program" (as seen in the above image) This box should pop up & When it does just double click the Windows Media Player Icon/Tab. Edit: Make sure the box at the top is ticked, like in the picture above.

If I had the choice I'd probably go back to Windows 7. I find 8 a bit sluggish compared to 7 plus there is ads everywhere on 8. You can deactivate them, but you'll still see highlighted words within forum posts, which are hidden ads. I don't think my version of 8 is touch screen, not that I'd use it anyway even if it was. Plus there is a bunch of useless apps in 8. One thing I do like about 8 is it boots up super fast, turn on PC, enter password done. Within seconds you are online. But I rather wait 2 or 3 minutes on Windows 7 boot up to not have the ads, apps, and have a smoother online experience.

What is 8.1, like a update? Yeah, It does quite a bit of stuff & Adds the "Start" button to the bottom left hand corner again.

The start button is already on the left. You're probably already on 8.1 then.

So the button used to be on the right or something?
Laptop is new, makes sense to have the latest Windows on it. How often does 8 update, 7 updates quite commonly, is 8 the same?
