There's a person in my town who thinks that no matter what, everyone is going to heaven. I tried reasoning with her, but, you know, I'm a bigot.

Does she call herself a Christian? Yep. "I'm a Christian, but I don't believe the things that Jesus said..." Alrighty then. Good luck with that. One of my instructors in my Deacon classes told us that when you encounter someone with some bizarre beliefs, you should ask them the "four deadly questions" 1) What do you mean by that? 2) How do you know that to be true? 3) Where do you get your information? 4) What if you are wrong? (and he added a 5th, but it doesn't always fit) 5) How's that working for you? The trick is to ask these questions, in this order, and just let them talk without interrupting them. Usually they'll talk themselves in circles or otherwise get to a point where they see their error, even if they can't admit it to you.

Yes, that is exactly what they want... and they're going to get it, because we're not more than two decades away from the U.S. legally making many Biblical teachings "hate speech" and therefore, we will either be silent or be imprisoned. It has already happened in numerous "free" countries around the world, and in limited form, right here in the supposedly "free speech" and "religious freedom" loving U.S. of A.

When that does happen, I would completely rather be imprisoned instead of silent.

We really don't have a choice if we want to call ourselves Christians, we can't be silent... but at the same time, from the persecutors perspective, it's the same thing. Silent, silenced, or marginalized. It all adds up to "we win." There is a bright side for us though... once being Christian comes with a cost again, we'll be able to see who is willing to pay it (and if that number includes ourselves).

"Treat yourself to a few bumper stickers."
... actually that joke is funny but cuts both ways. Christians with cutesy, trite catchphrase bumper stickers drive me nuts.

There's a similar one about Christians getting worked up about Super Bowl hype. "Can you imagine if everyone was as excited about Jesus?" and then Jesus is saying "Shush. It's unnecessary." I really liked that one.

... although I do frequently want to just say "burn in Hell, pagan" to people. Frequently.
