Not always, heck, the church I'm a member of almost became divided after we learned that we were paying for the pastor's dry cleaning. Nothing at all unusual about that sort of thing. They gotta make a living somehow!

That doesn't necessarily mean that they're teaching sound doctrine though. When Paul warns Timothy of the things he should be wary of in the future (2 Timothy 4, I believe), he doesn't say "and the time will come when churches will not be friendly places where everybody feels like they belong..." He says "time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions." You should be much more concerned over whether your church is teaching sound Biblical doctrine than with whether or not you like the person in the pew next to you. This. We have had members leave because they didn't like what was being taught, even after they were shown that it is in the Bible.

There have been some pretty messed up pastors from the churches I've attended...

The guy who did the mass suicide pact was a preacher from northern Indiana.

Nothing at all unusual about that sort of thing. They gotta make a living somehow! LOL I meant nothing unusual about congregations splitting over relatively petty things, like dry cleaning bills. The Bible never says anything about who should pay the Pastors bills (although Paul DOES say that he would be within his rights to take money from the churches he started to support his ministry), so that's the kind of thing a congregation should decide for itself, but once the matter is decided, like it or not, everyone in the congregation should support the decision whether they agreed with it or not. We're not supposed to behave like the rest of the world. Our fellowship should be more important to us than getting our own way.

I don't know what kind of churches you've attended, and I'm not pretending to, but I personally am very wary of any religious institution where a person can declare himself a Pastor with no oversight, and have essentially unlimited control of the congregation. A Pastor who cannot be called to question by other authorities can invent all kinds of false interpretations of the Bible (which is how a number of our current denominations were founded)

Speaking of messed up pastors/preachers, we (church band) were perfoming southern gospel at a revival service and the preacher insulted our music genre.

This is probably a psychological thing but I prefer preachers who talk instead of shout. I have issues with people raising their voices no matter what they're talking about. I just go into a shell.

He must be related to Mike, passionately hating things and all. I hate lots of things... but as a Pastor, a better choice for him would have been to know what music was going to be played ahead of time so he could say "no" if he didn't approve. Barring that, he should have been thankful to have people praising God, even if he didn't appreciate the form it took personally. Insulting the music after the fact is poor leadership and a great way to demotivate people.

First, know that I love you as a brother in Christ. Second... stop making excuses and go to church, man. It's not about having a good time or your personal enjoyment. It's about sharing koinonia with your Brothers and Sisters and being fed the word of God by someone who was called by the Holy Spirit to do so.

I hate it when people text, sleep, or whisper in church. It shows that they give zero shits about their own religion. It's mostly teenagers. That's why I hate teenagers. They fail to understand the importance of it. Grr.... I can't wait to not be one so that I can un-hypocritically hate them.

I haven't been since Christmas. I may try to go this week.

I haven't been to an actual church service since...
It's been about a year. I go to church about once a year.

Because I'm a parent of small children, I have no problem with people whispering in church. I have a problem with people having conversations that they think are more important than the service, but sometimes people have to be able to communicate various things.
Be very careful about taking a disapproving attitude toward people in church. If it helps, ask yourself would you rather have them there not really paying full attention, or would you rather not have them there at all? There's nothing wrong with hoping people will show proper reverence for God, but it's usually better to model the behavior you'd want to see in them than it is to let them know you disapprove of them.
... plus, if you were really so into the service yourself, you wouldn't have time to notice what they're doing 8)

You can hate most teenagers and say so without being a hypocrite, as long as you define why you hate them and don't actually do those same actions yourself. If you do those same actions then all you have to do is admit that you are in the wrong as well.
