Let's start with your schedule. When are you available? Or Even better, we can have a chat tomorrow on Skype and talk something through. For summer my schedule is basically open except Tuesday nights and some Saturdays during the day (relative to my timezone), and Sunday before 2PM, but it gets more constricted when school starts up again and I'm taking my kids to and from, etc. During the school year I can basically do 9 AM - 2 PM any weekday (the time between when I get home from dropping off, and the time when I have to leave to pick them back up), or late night (9PM or later) Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday or some time on Saturdays (but I would have to miss certain weeks due to my class schedule), or Sundays pretty much any time after 2 PM. I'm thinking Sundays would be good. If you say after 2 that means after 7 here. We could feasibly go till 10, 11 at a stretch on a Sunday. A good 3 hours. Should be sufficient? So I'm proposing 2 till 5 on Sundays your time 7-10 my time?

Ideally you want a minimum of 2 hours per session, I prefer something in the 4 hour area, just because players tend to BS and goof around a lot, so in reality you only get about half of that time to actually play (although we all BS here plenty, so maybe that won't be as much of an issue). It really depends on how much you want to get done/how fast you want the Campaign to progress. Oh, then that'd be great for me, lol. I thought it'd be longer than that. Some people marathon sessions of like 8 hours, but if you're playing regularly (weekly, or mostly weekly), that can be a bit much.

Had a chat with the gf and the times I proposed are ok with her as well. We can go up to 11 if necessary but we've both got work on Mondays.

I'm away from home till tomorrow night. When you thinking about starting? Well obviously not this week. Once I find out if this time can work for Bane, I'll open it up to other board users and then if we still need slots I'll head over to Roll20 and recruit. What kind of campaign are you and your GF interested in? I'm thinking of a game that would start off somewhat sandbox-like, set in a border town so that you guys can expand into bigger cities if you want as your characters grow more powerful, etc.

May as well start when 5 is released. Or have a short campaign until handbooks are out. Whatever you feel comfortable with.

These goobs are playing AD&D 1st Edition (which was released before most of you were born), but it still captures the experience pretty well. The documentary is pretty old, and hearkens back to a time (my early days with D&D) where only hardcore dorks and geeks played. That's not really the case anymore, people from all walks of life are gamers nowadays... but it's still a great haven for young people finding their place in life, and a way that I've made lifelong friends and found acceptance despite my peculiarities. If it seems like I'm advertising for table top RPG participation; that's because I am. It's an amazing hobby, and I hope that you guys will at least give it a try at some point in your lives. I'll see your Dungeons and Dragons documentary and raise you this fanatical Christian special about how Dungeons and Dragons (and Masters of the Universe. And Care Bears. And Rainbow Brite. And everything.) are propagandic tools of an unnamed group that's working with Satan to brainwash children with occultism.

[/quote] Reasonably certain that not only did I watch this at Confirmation Camp after 8th grade, I've mentioned it on the forum before LOL There were actually tons of these kinds of "documentaries" and the Chick Tracts I mentioned earlier in this thread. I kind of want to re-watch this one now. The ones I posted are of a significantly different editorial bent, however. ... you should join us on Sunday afternoons starting in August Mike 8)

You should definitely watch it. It's fascinating, not just because they talk about the toys that we grew up with but also because the guys just seem so........nice. I mean they're looking for "overt" evidence of evil in the littlest of things ("Dungeons and Dragons comes with pieces that have the number SIX on them, doesn't it?") and condemning everything they see as a direct line to Satan but the guys just seem so friendly and genuine about their misguided attempts to protect the children that this is one of those cases where they're actually more fascinating than frustrating to listen to. That or the fact that we're a couple decades removed from this kind of thing and don't need to be angry about it anymore.
As for D&D itself, you know that I'm fascinated and would love to get into it but it's going to be kind of a busy weekend and I don't have any of the kit (which comes with the number 6 and- they actually say this- screams like escaping souls when you throw it into a fire).

Yeah mike. Join us. Be a bard. If anything my RPG history suggests that my interests would lie most in being a ranger. Why would I be a bard?

Apparently Amazon here are delaying all the copies of the starter kit for 2 weeks. Estimated time of arrival according to my account is now the 8th August.
We don't have any gaming shops near us either.

Think it's just an Amazon being crap thing. I'll probably end up picking up in my old town when I go visit buddies sometime in the next few weeks.
