J.R.R. Tolkien is a badass...(Also the irony of the fact that he corrected grammar that was used by Nazis).
"25 July 1938 20 Northmoor Road, Oxford
Dear Sirs,
Thank you for your letter. I regret that I am not clear as to what you intend by arisch. I am not of Aryan extraction: that is Indo-Iranian; as far as I am aware none of my ancestors spoke Hindustani, Persian, Gypsy, or any related dialects. But if I am to understand that you are enquiring whether I am of Jewish origin, I can only reply that I regret that I appear to have no ancestors of that gifted people. My great-great-grandfather came to England in the eighteenth century from Germany: the main part of my descent is therefore purely English, and I am an English subject — which should be sufficient. I have been accustomed, nonetheless, to regard my German name with pride, and continued to do so throughout the period of the late regrettable war, in which I served in the English army. I cannot, however, forbear to comment that if impertinent and irrelevant inquiries of this sort are to become the rule in matters of literature, then the time is not far distant when a German name will no longer be a source of pride.
Your enquiry is doubtless made in order to comply with the laws of your own country, but that this should be held to apply to the subjects of another state would be improper, even if it had (as it has not) any bearing whatsoever on the merits of my work or its sustainability for publication, of which you appear to have satisfied yourselves without reference to my Abstammung.
I trust you will find this reply satisfactory, and
remain yours faithfully,
J. R. R. Tolkien"

I wonder how many people reading this even realize that the word "Aryan" was completely misappropriated by the Nazis

I don't know what it meant orginally, though the National Socialist Party took it to mean "blond hair, blue eyes, caucasian color". The true "Aryans" were people who lived in India. The word (or derivations of the word) means "noble." It specifically referred originally to one particular tribe dwelling in the area when the Hindu religion was taking root, they were one of the sources of Vedic teaching. In pre-Nazi Germany, the National Socialist Party was firmly allied with a Masonic cult known as The Thule Society, which, amongst other things, drew heavily from "new age" practices, which were themselves borrowed heavily from Eastern mysticism. For reasons I'm not entirely clear on, they took the word "aryan" to mean "pure", so the "aryan race" would be "the pure race"... except that they took it a step further and capitalized it, to suggest an ancient mythical pure tribe of Aryans (that had never existed, of course). If you get really deep into this stuff you start finding out that they believed in Atlantis and a lot of other fun stuff. The Nazis were a trip.

Well, Hitler WAS on drugs. Not till later, and Hitler didn't come up with the whole "Aryan" thing. Hitler was well under the thumb of the Thule Society long before he became Chancellor.

Well, Hitler WAS on drugs. He also gives a bad name to Christians (as he was raised Roman Catholic).

I don't know why, but I thought of something. We all could probably make a great podcast.
Also, it seems Klogman has joined these forums.

I'm confusing myself. I restrain from the boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, as it causes nothing but pain and sorrow should it not work out. Yet, at the same time, there's a girl in my class that I like, so, after a few weeks of thinking of possible outcomes, I haven't yet decided what to do.
I hate being a teenager sometimes.

Eh it could be worse. You could end up like me and fall for a bunch of girls who are already dating someone. Then of course I become friends with them. I really hate how often that's happened to me.

Perhaps the worst part of this is that I can tell that she likes someone else, so it's torture.

My main advice when it comes to dating: Don't look to the internet for dating advice.

Yeah, that's happened to me 8 times now.
