Nah, I just believe that, while the sales for both systems are probably healthy, the enormous backlash against Microsoft's handling of the XBox One needs to be taken into account.
There are also other things such as the famous "1080 vs. 720" Call of Duty debacle which has only served to make the Xbox One look worse but in all fairness I'm not enough of a pixel slut to personally care too much about that one.

I'm sure there are plenty of excuses for people to bitch about the one, but objectively, there doesn't seem to be any kind of evidence that any of them significantly impacted launch sales. I personally believe that almost all of the "outrage" was coming from seminar caller types who were pulling for Sony and never had any intention of buying a One in the first place. I understand that (for reasons unfathomable to me) the mere fact that MS had made decisions that they disliked was still a sticking point for some even after MS retracted those decisions, but I think the evidence pretty clearly indicates that the actual number was pretty tiny.. or that a number of them held their nose and bought the One despite their hilariously overblown reaction. Prior to the announcement of the One and the ridiculously lop-sided media coverage of the One "reveal", interest in the two consoles was fairly even. Afterward, several polls showed One lagging badly. When the rubber hit the road, the actual figures seem to reflect the pre-reveal hysteria projections a lot more closely than the post. From this, I can only conclude that one of the following two things must be true. 1) The actual impact on One sales was miniscule. or 2) The One was going to destroy the PS4 in a landslide victory not seen since Reagan/Mondale in 84. 8)

Most of them happen to know nothing about either console and were just getting the Xbox One because they had the 360. Also this is based on around 20 or so people that I asked.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Everything I've read has predicted that, based on the attitude of industry analysts, third-party developers and the public at large, Microsoft's disastrous pre-launch will cost the company its position as the number one console manufacturer in the Unites States, a position it won when Sony showed the same kind of hubris.

You happen to forget the mass amount of blind fanboyism that those under the Xbox brand show. Microsoft could send out shit in plastic and give it the label Xbox *Insert something here* and people would still eat it up like a Thanksgiving feast.

Yeah believe me, I've looked at countless polls, forums and articles about this. The blind worship shown to both consoles is enough to lead our country to war.

I would be more worried about the fact that the blind following of political parties in today's society that have pretty much split our country directly down the middle and each side shows extreme hatred towards each other.

It's not blind. It's a genuine ideological rift. Thirty years ago when politicians said "we both want the same thing, we just have different ideas of how to get there" it was true. It no longer is. The two parties now have wildly different desired results in mind... and issue-by-issue, America is split fairly evenly between. Brushing things like Constitutional Interpretation, what constitutes a basic human right, appropriate use of military force, etc off as "politics as usual" is just as dangerous as blind party loyalty.

It essentially is the same thing as blind party loyalty. I know some who would vote democrat if a poodle was running. The stupidity of that is the same stupidity that goes into blind fanboyism.

Well, yes, I didn't mean to imply that there was any kind of genuine ideological rift in the console wars 8) Though, to be fair, I have noted that a lot of Sony fans want to create one by claiming that the XBox is an "entertainment" machine while the PlayStation is a "gaming" machine... even though the two have virtually identical features.

Not far off he plays Fishing games, Racing games, while my mother plays Just Dance. All very horrible but it makes them happy.
