Lol is the Lemming Mafia a thing? Yes. It's made up of the legions of followers who never gave the Transformers movies a real chance because they were too busy following the crowd.

You just implied that people who enjoyed the Transformers movie have good taste. I'm never going to let you live that down.

Say what you want. I think the Transformers movies got labeled as "Michael Bay films" and it immediately wasn't cool to like them, even before anyone had actually seen them. Don't get me wrong, there are serious problems with the movies (particularly the 2nd one), but compared to the garbage that's out there, I don't see how it's possible that they get the hate heaped on them that they do.
I'm also not sure what exactly people wanted. Transformers has ALWAYS been a story about goofy and mostly inept humans suddenly thrown into the deep water of an intergalactic war between various breeds of giant robots.

Yes, I know that the humans have always been there. (Except in Beast Wars, which I felt was better off because of it) But they never received so much screentime and focus over the titular characters. (Again, except in Animated, but it turned out the human was a Transformer the entire time, anyways.)

Saw the movie with an open mind- even a little excitement- at a drive-in, no less. By probably the halfway point I would have been fine driving out but figured that we should stay and get our money's worth. YOU can say what you want, most people who don't like this film feel that way because...get this...it really wasn't very good.
I'll tell you exactly what I wanted out of a Transformers movie- less emphasis on the humans, less cornball cheesiness, more giant robots f***ing each other up. That really shouldn't have been too hard.

YOU can say what you want, most people who don't like this film didn't like it because...get this...it really wasn't very good. I'll tell you exactly what I wanted out of a Transformers movie- less emphasis on the humans, less cornball cheesiness, more giant robots f***ing each other up. That really shouldn't have been too hard. Nobody ever acknowledges bias. If I took peoples' words for it, there would be no such thing as bias in the entire world. Objectively, the quality of the films was not that bad, and the claim that the movie should have focused more on the Transformers ignores the entire body of Transformers lore prior to the movies, which always heavily featured human characters (with the aforementioned exception of Beast Wars... and any honest observer could point out a whole slew of problems with that series in itself, though I admit to being a fan myself, until they ruined it by taking them back to Cybertron.). The notion that there was "more" focus on the human characters is just plain false, there were entire episodes of the original cartoon series dedicated to the internal soap opera of the Witwicky family and their nerdy friend in the wheelchair, and later on entire episodes devoted to introducing new human allies such as Raul the ambiguously ethnic car thief. The comic book series, if anything, gave even greater roles to the Witwicky family; at one point Spike was the de facto leader of the Autobots. Cornball cheesiness has also always been a big part of the series. Anyone who denies this needs to go read the $#@!ing book written by one of the key writers of the original series where he talks about Grimlock's personality being specifically altered from the original plan in order to 'bring humor" to the series.... or, I dunno, maybe just remember the fact that the animated movie had the Micro Machines guy voicing a $#@!ing motorcycle that spoke entirely in commercials. The movies are an accurate representation of what the Transformers series has always been; a story about giant robots engaged in an endless war that spills over into the world of human beings, with action, humor, and even a little drama ever-present in the mix. The LEAST successful seasons/versions of the show have been those that were dedicated solely to the Transformers in space or on Cybertron with humans absent from the story.

If you say so. I didn't watch the cartoon with any regularity, all I know is that I don't really remember any human characters from the time that I did tune in so either they weren't as important as you're making them sound or they weren't memorable enough to matter to me.
What I do know is that I wasn't riding some Michael Bay hate train when the movie was released (He made "The Rock" which to this day I greatly enjoy) and didn't really have any expectations when I went to see the film. All I wanted was a movie about giant robots fucking each other up that wasn't incredibly stupid. They dropped the ball on both accounts. *Shrug*

How can you seriously not remember the Witwicky family? Buster and his son Spike worked on an oil rig and were saved by the Autobots. Buster was constantly helping Ratchet fix the other Autobots? Spike rode around in Bumblebee for virtually every single episode of the first season? Chip (the wheelchair-bound friend) helped design the $#@!ing Dinobots( ) Spike's son was a HUGE plot point in the Transformers movie!

I found that the 80s cartoon movie was much more fun, especially the soundtrack. So did I? What's your point? I'm not suggesting that the Bay films were great or anything, or even that they were particularly good entries in the Transformers family of products... I just feel that objectively, they aren't nearly as bad as people keep making them out to be.

My point is I was responding to the general OP rather than anyone in particular, I haven't read the thread through yet. So if you are debating that then fair enough, not sure why you thought I was disagreeing with you at this juncture. If I was talking to you directly about it, I'd have quoted you. But, now you've included me, I agree with you. I have all 3 of the Bay films on DVD and I enjoyed them as far as popcorn flicks go.

The soundtrack to the 80's movie was awesome though. If for no other reason, because it embarrasses the crap out of my kid whenever I jam to "You've Got The Touch."

Before the movie, if I'd been given a survey and challenged to answer a yes or no question that asked me whether humans were a central part of the Transformers universe, I would have hesitated with my pencil over the "no" circle.
